The SolutionKieran joined GEMS in 2009 having previously worked in the UK where he had had dealings with Technology Supplies in the past. So he contacted their Director of Project Services Martyn Edwards to explain the prestigious project in detail.

After first visiting the school himself to see what was needed, Martyn then sent layout and design specialists who worked closely as a team with Kieran and his colleagues. Drawings and designs went back and forwards until exactly the right solution was agreed.

The Technology Supplies Project Services team which included a dedicated project delivery team with administrators, procurement teams, a dedicated Project Manager and highly skilled UK engineers delivered a full door to door turnkey project which included managing all the logistics, import duties and unloading of the 3x40ft containers of equipment and made sure everything was safely delivered, installed and commissioned. The equipment supplied ranged from loose manual tools and equipment such as drills, sanders, polishers, milling machines and metal lathes, through to

Technology to enhance learning is abundant around the school and includes everything from laptops and iPads to green-screen facilities, a recording studio and a 3D planetarium. Therefore when the school’s Head of Design, Kieran Walsh, was charged with overseeing the development of two brand new 160m2 dedicated D&T workshops.

In recognition of the rising profile of this subject in the United States he knew that only the best would do. Particular issues in the Middle East include a general lack of expertise in this area, together with challenges around electrical services and extraction systems.

The Situation

advanced CNC lasers and computer-controlled machinery for the two large workshops, the preparation and storage room. From first drawings to first lessons in the new workshops, the job was completed in the desired 18-month timescale, on time and on budget.
