World Grand Prix was created by FIVB in 1993 as a professionalwomen’s sporting entertainment concept for spectators to watch liveand on TV, and to follow in the press the performance of the bestnational Volleyball women’s teams competing for the highest levels ofprize money ever allocated in a women’s team sport event.

Volleyball is now more exciting than ever to watch and play since therecent introduction of the “Rally-point scoring system”. Each rally scoresa point for the winning team and matches are played as the best of 5 setswith the first 4 sets to 25 pt. and 15 pt. for the 5th set always with a 2-pt.lead. The spectacular “libero” player, the new colours of the Mikasa ball,new uniform design, coach involvement and liberal refereeing, all makenew Volleyball more exciting, demanding and spectacular than ever, fullof dramatic moments and entertaining actions for the enjoyment ofspectators and TV audiences alike.

The World Grand Prix is played in July or August by up to 8 topWomen’s National Volleyball teams touring South East Asia in apreliminary phase consisting of two pools over 3 weekends andclimaxing in a Final Round on the 4th weekend.

A 1 Million US Dollar purse is at stake and the participating teamsinclude Japan, USA, Brazil, Germany or Italy, Russia, Cuba, Korea andChina.
