Do Now ** 1). Please complete the chart below for possible benefits and drawbacks of peer editing.

Potential Benefits of Peer Editing Potential Drawbacks of Peer Editing

Key Takeaways from Do Now Discussion

Peer EditingDirections: Today will be the first of many days that we engage in peer editing! While you may have done peer editing in other classes, peer editing is critical for success in AP Seminar. For the formal AP assessment tasks (team and individual), teachers are not permitted to give direct feedback on individual student work. Therefore, direct individual feedback on those papers and presentations will come directly from your peers. This class contains an impressive group of North Star students who have had tremendous academic success so far in high school! You

can all benefit from peer suggestions, but peer editing is only effective and meaningful when everyone buys in—offering detailed constructive feedback (on the part of the peer editor) and thinking about and evaluating peer suggestions with fidelity (on the part of the writer or presenter).

“You want to write a sentence as clean as a bone. That is the goal.” –James Baldwin

Peer Review Feedback Student 1Peer Reviewer Name: Author Name:Type of Written Presentation (prose or poetry):Are their examples in the written presentation of wordiness? Can any sentences be made more concise or clearer?

What is the main idea of the written piece? (In 1-2 sentences, can you clearly articulate the connection between the author’s name and their identity?)

What is the broader significance of the piece? Does the author end with a thought provoking idea at the end? Why is the connection between their name and identity so important? Does the reader leave the piece understanding why the connection between their name and identity really matters?

Does the author use examples (anecdotal or factual) to show and highlight the connection between their name and identity? Where might additional details be added?
