2. You Know Who I Am

Lord hear me, I am open, I surrender all my sin. All my pride gets me nowhere, leaves me stranded, empty handed.

So sha er the darkness in my life as I carry this cross both day and night. All the way, all the way to heaven.

You know who I am, Lord please take my hand and lead me into community. You know who I am, Lord, help me to stand, falling in love with Your family.

I confess to You, Jesus and to you my brothers and sisters that I have sinned and need forgiveness; Pray for me and I for you.

3. Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone!)

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now am found; was blind, but now I see.

‘Twas Grace that taught my heart to fear, and Grace my fears relieved. How precious did that Grace appear, the hour I first believed.

My chains are gone, I’ve been set free; my God, my Savior has ransomed me! And like a flood, His mercy reigns, unending love, Amazing Grace.

The Lord has promised good to me, His word my hope secures. He will my shield and por on be, as long as life endures.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, the sun forbear to shine; but God who called me here below, will be forever mine,

will be forever mine, You are forever mine. Words and music by John Newton, 1725-1807 John P. Rees and Edwin Othello Excell. Arrangement and chorus by Chris Tomlin and Louie Giglio. CCLI #1595099

4. Restless You dwell in the songs that we are singing, rising to the heavens, rising to Your heart, Your heart.

Our praises, filling up the spaces in between our frailty and ev’rything You are. You are the Keeper of my heart.

And I’m restless; I’m restless ‘ l I rest in You, ‘ l I rest in You. I am restless; I’m restless ‘ l I rest in You, ‘ l I rest in You, oh God. I want to rest in You.

Oh, speak now, for my soul is list’ning; say that You have saved me; whisper in the dark, the dark, ‘Cause I know

You’re more than my salva on; without You I am hopeless. Tell me who You are. You are the Keeper of my heart. (bridge)

S ll my heart; hold me close; let me hear a s ll, small voice. Let it grow; let it rise into a shout, into a cry. Oh, (repeat)

5. I Love You, Lord I love you, Lord. I love you, Lord. I love you, Lord; you are my strength.

My heart, it longs to be with you and nothing else will ever do. So at your throne is where I’ll be ‘cause your flesh and blood consumes me, and I am one with you.

My stronghold, my refuge, your righteousness will see me through. In dark of night and thorn of sin, I will stay close to you, my friend, and I am one with you.

6. God of Mercy MI-508 God of mercy, holy myst’ry, ever faithful one, you have pitched Your tent among us, reconciling love.

Heart and mind of Christ, live within our lives, form us into people of mercy and grace. You have called us each by name in your great compassion, encompassing our failings with mercy.

God of mercy, lead us. Slow to anger, rich in love, you bestow forgiveness. May we, in turn, forgive those who harm us.

God of mercy, lead us. In our midst as one who serves, breaking down divisions, to all in need you send us as neighbor.

God of mercy, lead us. Reaching out to those in pain, wounded and abandoned, may we create safe havens for healing.

God of mercy, lead us. In the word of truth you speak, word of hope and challenge, you summon us to speak for the voiceless.

God of mercy, lead us. In this Bread we bread and share, in this Cup of blessing, you summon us to work for true jus ce.

God of mercy, lead us. © 2015, ricky Manolo, CSP and Bob Hurd. Published by OCP. All rights reserved.

7. Indescribable From the highest of heights to the depths of the sea, crea on’s revealing Your majesty. From the colors of

Fall to the fragrance of Spring, ev’ry creature unique in the song that it sings. All exclaiming: Indescribable, uncontainable; You placed the stars in the sky, and You know them by name. You are

amazing, God; All powerful, untamable; Awestruck, we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim You are amazing God.

Who has told ev’ry lightning bolt where it should go, or seen heavenly store-houses laden with snow? Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light, yet conceals it to bring us the coolness of night?

FAITH: TRUST, ACCEPTANCE AND GRATITUDE

Though our first reading and Gospel stories today are about the cure of leprosy by the Prophet Elisha and Jesus, our focus needs to be about our faith in trusting, accepting and thanking God no matter what the situation whether God is immediate or delayed in His care for us.

Each present us with an interesting healing approach by the Prophet Elisha of Naaman the Syrian in the first reading and by Jesus in the Gospel of the 10 lepers; 9 Israelites and 1 Samaritan. Both offered instructions to the lepers to cleanse themselves but never saw the miracle of healing take place and neither came close to Naaman and the Samaritan until they returned to give thanks and glory to God.

Though Naaman was initially arrogant in his reluctance to follow Elisha’s instructions, he did so with the urging of his servants and returns from the River Jordan cleansed in body, as well as spiritually healed in his belief that God is the true God. The Samaritan, before leaving Jesus to be washed by the priests at Mount Gerezim in Samaria, glorified and thanked Him before going. Jesus, in turn, relieved him from visiting with a priest, because his faith saved him. The lessons we receive from these stories help us to make the right choices when trusting in God.

We learn from the first reading that when we trust in God, we allow Him to act in His own way. Second, in our relationship with God we must be humble, submissive and obedient. Last, we must realize that the work of God is unique and that we do not need to offer a physical reward, but instead we should seek an inner conversion of heart.

In the Gospel, no other story shows so emphatically the ingratitude of human persons. Only one of the nine realized that Jesus had healed him and returns to Him before going to the priests to fulfill the obligation. Jesus was surprised and sad at the ingratitude of others. The Samaritan prostrates himself before Jesus, a sign of deepest respect and honor. This alien, this outsider and, by implication, this godless pagan, a person who is presumed to be far from God is the one who is most deeply aware of God’s action in his life.

St. Paul shares in his letter with Timothy many of these thoughts when he writes that the Lord is faithful to us even if we are faithless in Him. Our perseverance in the living faith, in whatever the Lord God permits to come our way for our sanctification, will be our assurance of salvation. It is one of the many ways of saying thanks to God for what He has given us.

Our focus then, as I wrote earlier, should remind us of the love, kindness and mercy of Jesus to all classes of people. We all need to be grateful to God every day of our lives for the graces and good gifts we have received in and through Him. He has not only given us our life with all its joys and sorrows, but he has prepared us a future life of joy and happiness. We often fail to acknowledge the good He has done for us and for all persons who come to us as instruments of God. Our lives should be one of thanksgiving and at the same time one of thanks “living.” We should acknowledge God’s gifts and express our gratitude to Him. Let us start by being in relationship with Him always!

New Yorkers Reject Late Term Abortion

In the wake of a new law that allows abortion at any time during pregnancy, a new survey conducted by the Marist Poll finds that the overwhelming majority of New York State residents oppose late-term abortion. In fact, a majority of New Yorkers would limit abortion to – at most – the first three months of pregnancy. The majority opposition to late-term abortion, and support for abortion restrictions was strong even though most New Yorkers identify as pro-choice (62 percent to 34 percent pro-life).

“New Yorkers simply do not support laws that allow late-term abortions,” said Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. “It is now clear that these radical policies are being pursued despite opposition by the majority of New Yorkers, and by a majority of those who identify as Democrats, Republicans and independents.”

Abortion after 20 weeks is opposed by New Yorkers by a margin of 75 percent to 20 percent. This includes 71 percent who would ban abortion after 20 weeks and four percent who would ban the procedure altogether. This includes about seven in 10 Democrats (69 percent), about three quarters of independents (73 percent), and almost nine in 10 Republicans (89 percent). The numbers are in line with the national survey results, which found in February that Americans opposed abortion after 20 weeks by 71 percent to 18 percent.

About two-thirds of New Yorkers also say abortion should be “generally illegal” in the last trimester of pregnancy (63 percent), while about half as many (32 percent) think it should be “generally legal.” This includes a majority of New York Democrats (53 percent), about two thirds of independents (65 percent) and more than eight in 10 Republicans (84 percent). Nationally, Americans say third trimester abortion should be “generally illegal” by a 71 percent to 25 percent margin.

When given a wide range of choices to describe their position on abortion, two-thirds of New Yorkers (66 percent) said they would limit abortion to – at most – the first trimester of pregnancy. Only two in ten would allow it in the last trimester (21 percent). That number includes a majority of Democrats (54 percent), about two-thirds of independents (65 percent), and almost nine in 10 Republicans (88 percent). Nationally, eight in 10 Americans would similarly limit abortion to – at most – the first three months of pregnancy.

About the Survey This survey of 981 adults was conducted February 25th through March 4th, 2019 by The Marist Poll sponsored in partnership with The Knights of Columbus. Adults 18 years of age and older

residing in the state of New York were contacted on landline or mobile numbers and interviewed in English by telephone using live interviewers. Telephone numbers were randomly selected based upon a list of telephone exchanges from throughout the state. The sample was balanced to reflect

the 2016 American Community Survey 5-year estimates for age, gender, income, and region except for race, which is from the 2010 census. Results are statistically significant within ±3.5

percentage points. (Knights of Columbus, 1 Columbus Plaza, New Haven, CT 06510)
