In 1813 the General Assembly of Maryland authorized a lottery to raise money for the completion of All Saints’ Church building in Frederick, Maryland. The lottery took place in 1814 and was advertised with the intent to raise $3,000. Now, 200 years later, the Vestry of All Saints’ Church has authorized a lottery to raise money to shore up the financial foundation of that very church. Half of the proceeds from this lottery will go toward supporting the church and our ministries. The other half of the lottery proceeds will go towards prizes and expenses: One Grand-Prize Winner receives one-third (33.3%) of the pot and Five Second-Prize Winners each win 3%. Our goal is to sell 600 tickets at $50 each for a total of $30,000. Meeting that goal will mean that the Church’s $15,000 fundraising goal for the year will have been met; the maximum Grand Prize of $10,000 will go to one lucky ticket holder and a maximum of $900 will go to each second-place ticket holder. Please note that winners are responsible for applicable federal and state taxes.

Raffle tickets will be available for sale by the first week in August and can be purchased from one of the following Ticket Team Captains: Tracy Boyd, Jackie and Jonathan Gambill, Scarlett Gibb, Mark and Sara Gibson, Kevin Hennessey, Niki Thrash, or at the Parish Office. ‘Bon Voyage’ Celebration for seminarian Nancy Hennessey

The next phase of Nancy’s journey to the priesthood will take her to General Theological Seminary in New York City for the next two years. On Sunday, August 10 follow-ing the 10:30 service, please join us for a pot luck lunch as we celebrate and honor Nancy and wish her well in this next phase of her journey. This will be a happy and joyous event and will give all of us a chance to personally thank Nancy, and extend our heartfelt wishes for success and spiritual fulfillment. For more information, please contact Cathy Guzauskas ([email protected]) or any member of the All Saints’ Worship Committee.

The congregation will present Nancy with a special gift at the party. If you would like to make a contribution, please include ‘Nancy Hennessey Bon Voyage’ in the MEMO line. Checks can be made out to All Saints’ Church and contributions towards gift can be placed in offering plate.

THANK YOU for a Great Book Sale from St. Mary’s Chapter!

The Sixteenth Annual Book Sale was accomplished thanks to all the donations and work of the parish. Buyers came from all over the Mid-Atlantic region to shop in what they say is one of the best organized book sales in the area. Revenue results will be published in announcements and the September newsletter.

Special thanks for making our Book Sale so successful go to all our volunteers, and especially to the many parishioners who are not members of St. Mary’s Chapter but pitched in to help. We can’t name everyone who volunteered, but the en-ergy and enthusiasm they brought was noted and appreciated. We sincerely appreciate the support of staff members Katie Schwartz, Alyssia Gilbert, and Nancy McArthur, and the ‘Over the Hill Gang,’ who worked behind the scenes to prepare for the sale.

to gather a team together of ticket sellers to help sell those tickets fast and early.

The drawing will take place during Gourmet Night on Wednesday, November 12, 2014. The winner of the Raffle drawing need not be present to win. Reservations for Gourmet Night will be needed if you want to partake of the spectacular meal prepared for this special celebration. As a special bonus, lottery ticket holders will receive $5 off the Nov. 12 Gourmet Night ticket. November 12, 1814 was the actual date that Bishop Claggett consecrated the com-pleted church building—you can bet it will be a great eve-ning of fun and celebration . . . plus six lucky winners, the Church, and maybe YOU! Keep an eye on the church website for updates and information.

Gourmet Night: Chef’s Note The Gourmet Night Crew wants to thank all those that

have supported Gourmet Night over the past 10 years. We have tried to keep the quality and variety of menu

at the forefront, while keeping the budget in mind. We will maintain our price of $15.00 per person at least through the November meal, and will then revisit our price point.

As you all are aware, inflation in the cost of food has hit us all and we will do everything possible to keep “OUR” night affordable. God Bless and looking forward to seeing all of you in September.

—Chef Harry and Crew
