COMMUNION at SECOND BAPTISTCommunion at Second Baptist Church is open to all

who profess Jesus Christ as Savior. Our Communion Bread is always gluten-free.

Meditations

The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed.

– C.G. Jung

Christian community is like the Christian’s sanctification. It is a gift of God which we cannot claim. Only God knows the real state of our fellowship, of our sanctification. What may appear weak and trifling to us may be great and glorious to God. Just as the Christian should not be constantly feeling his spiritual pulse, so, too, the Christian community has not been given to us by God for us to be constantly taking its temperature. The more thankfully we daily receive what is given to us, the more surely and steadily will fellowship increase and grow from day to day as God pleases.

– Dietrich Bonhoeffer

+A Time of Greeting Jason Edwards

+Litany of Blessing Bryan Boyd, Sara LangfordJason Edwards

Leader: As a church, we give thanks to God today for our journey with Tyler Tankersley. We are grateful for the family, friends, teachers, churches and mentors who shaped him on his way to us.

People: We give thanks for the seeds of faith planted by others.

Leader: Through these years of ministry, we have sought together to follow Christ and to be Christ’s church in this place. You have walked among us as a brother, rejoiced with us, wept with us and sought God’s truth with us.

People: We give thanks for the seeds of hope you have nurtured among us.

Leader: Now we prepare to let go, to send Tyler forth into a new area of ministry with our blessing, praying that he may be salt of the earth and light for the world as he plants new seeds of God’s care both here and in other places.

People: We give thanks for the seeds of joy to be sown in the years ahead.

Leader: It was God who made the seed grow. The planter and the waterer are nothing compared with the one who gives life to the seed. For we are laborers together with God.

Page 6: Worship Guide 072714

People: The Lord bless you and keep you.

Leader: The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you and your family.

People: The Lord lift up his countenance upon all of you and give you peace.

All: Amen.
