Celebrating Julia’s MinistryThis morning we celebrate Julia Skiles Johnson’s 25 yearsof ministry at St. Luke’s. Julia began working here on July1, 1988 as the Director of Children’s Ministries. In additionto the faith memories she created for countless children andtheir families, Julia’s passion for ministry and leadershipstrengths have been instrumental in the creation of thebuildings project resulting in the creation of this Sanctu-ary and new education and music space in 1999. She hasbeen instrumental in five capital campaigns, a vital part ofkey leadership committees, a member of the GoverningBoard and the general go-to person for just about anythingSt. Luke’s related. Today we wish Julia and her husband,Bill, the best as Julia begins a new chapter in her life out-side St. Luke’s. Stop by the table in the Narthex for a pieceof cake and write a note to Julia.

Summer OutreachSt. Luke’s Outreach has committed to partner with Nora,Fox Hill, Springmill and Greenbriar Elementary Schools tohelp connect with the 75% of their students who qualifyfor free or reduced lunch. That is over 2,000 students inthe area surrounding the church. To address this need, St.Luke’s will be hosting the “Back to School Extravaganza”at our church August 4. This event will provide school sup-plies, clothing, food and other services to these children.This is a large undertaking . . . so we are asking you to getinvolved by sponsoring a child for $25 to get them the sup-plies they need, or you can pick up a supply list in the WestPassage today (or find one at www.stlukesumc.com) andbring donations to the main office. The Track Summer ScheduleHappening now: preschool and pre-k children (age 3 by9/12 to those not yet in kindergarten) are invited to theMini-Track for Sunday School classes at 9:30 & 11AM.Children who have completed kindergarten through 4thgrade will attend the first part of worship with their fami-lies.
