We leave the Christmas Sea-son today and begin Ordinary Time by cele-brating the Bap-tism of the Lord. The Baptism of Jesus reminds us of our own bap-

tism. By our Baptism, the Gates of Heaven are thrown open to us and we received the Grace to live a Christian Life. However, we must cooperate with the Baptismal Grace, that is, we must accept the Grace and act upon it. God never forces Himself into our lives. The heart of our life as Christians is that we freely give ourselves to God for His purpose.

Although Grace is a free gift given by God and as such cannot be merited or earned, we can dispose ourselves to fully receive His Grace by prayer, the study of our faith, and practicing virtue

and the disciplines of our faith. In this way, we are "formed" into the life of Christ. Christian Formation is a combi-nation of study, prayer and worship that directs and leads us towards Christ.

Our church parish provides many op-portunities for such activities. Many of the ACTS prayer groups have adopted a format of prayer, study of scripture, Eucharist, and Christian communi-ty. There are two Come, Lord Jesus! groups open to new members, so if you are interested please call the office. For men, we have "That Man is You," a group open to all men that meets Sat-urday mornings at 6 a.m. in the Parish Life Center. We have formal bible studies with various meeting times.

Also, I highly recommend a yearly re-treat for all as part of our continuing formation. The Parish hosts ACTS re-treats for both men and women twice a year. In addition to these things, we

also have charitable and fraternal or-ganizations, such as the Women’s Guild, Knights of Columbus, and the Mission Club who provide plenty of opportunity to put our faith into action. Finally, Mother’s Ministry fosters com-munity through prayer, learning, ser-vice, and fellowship with mothers in our parish. We all should have activi-ties that help us continue to learn about Jesus and express our beliefs in our actions. Hopefully, you will be able to actively participate in some of these activities during the coming year.

Please know that you remain in my heart and prayers in this new year. May God Bless you so that you may receive the Grace God the Father gives to you in the Incarnation of His Son, cooperate with that Grace through the power of the Holy Spirit, and come to know Him ever more deeply in the upcoming year!
