GOSPEL READING

Mark 9:38-50 (The Message)

38 John spoke up, “Teacher, we saw a man using your name to expel demons and we stopped him because he wasn’t in our group.” 39-41 Jesus wasn’t pleased. “Don’t stop him. No one can use my name to do something good and powerful, and in the next breath slam me. If he’s not an enemy, he’s an ally. Why, anyone by just giving you a cup of water in my name is on our side. Count on it that God will notice. 42 “On the other hand, if you give one of these simple, childlike believers a hard time, bullying or taking advantage of their simple trust, you’ll soon wish you hadn’t. You’d be better off dropped in the middle of the lake with a millstone around your neck. 43-

48 “If your hand or your foot gets in God’s way, chop it off and throw it away. You’re better off maimed or lame and alive than the proud owner of two hands and two feet, godless in a furnace of eternal fire. And if your eye distracts you from God, pull it out and throw it away. You’re better off one-eyed and alive than exercising your twenty-twenty vision from inside the fire of hell. 49-50 “Everyone’s going through a refining fire sooner or later, but you’ll be well-preserved, protected from the eternal flames. Be preservatives yourselves. Preserve the peace.”

THE MEAL THANKSGIVING AT THE TABLE P In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.

LORD'S PRAYER Our Father, in heaven,

hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done,

on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread; and forgive us our sins,

as we forgive those who sin against us;

Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory, are yours

now and forever. Amen. MEAL INSTRUCTIONS P Communion here is just this simple – All are welcome. This is the Lord’s Table and it is Jesus who invites us to share in the meal of forgiveness and promise. So, it doesn’t matter who you are or how you are, but that you simply come and share in this meal because God’s gifts are free.

COMMUNION DISTRIBUTION All who have faith in the words, “given for you” and “shed for you for the forgiveness of sin” is really worthy and well prepared to receive this sacrament. Communion is by individual cup (wine or white grape juice and gluten free wafers are available). Let an usher know if you need communion brought to you.

The Sunday bulletin focuses on the what, when, and where of announcements and ministry opportunities for the upcoming week. More detailed information is available on our Facebook page, in the Link, which is published weekly, and in the Voice, our monthly newsletter, and on our website – www.livinglordfl.org. Extra copies of the VOICE are available in the Narthex in the mail bins on the south wall.

Financial Support - Thank you for your continued support for our ministry and mission. Offerings and Forward in Faith commitments can be mailed to the church.

Attendance Pads Please fill out the attendance register and pass it down the aisle and let us know you were here. Add your name and if you are communing place a “C” in the member or visitor column. Otherwise, simply

place a checkmark () in that column. This is a change to satisfy our constitutional requirement to maintain a record of those who have communed. Thank you for helping us with this detail.
