Summer News

St. Luke’s Missions Alive

Exodus Homes was established in 1998 to provide structured faith-based supportive housing to homeless,

indigent, unemployed recovering people who are returning to our community from substance abuse treatment

centers, jail and prison. At-risk people in the community may also receive outreach and crisis intervention,

and inmates at Catawba Correctional Center are offered prison ministry programs.

Sixty-two beds of housing with eight program locations are found in Hickory. Exodus Homes provides a

holistic, comprehensive array of services that work together to help the residents learn how to live drug

free and avoid relapse, criminal behavior or a return to prison. A variety of vocational training enterprises

known as Exodus Works give the residents an opportunity to work and earn while seeking employment in the

local workforce and as a way to generate operating expenses for the agency. A significant portion of the

agency’s operating budget comes from the residents through Exodus Works or from program fees they pay

from money earned at jobs they obtain locally through Exodus Homes. The residents also serve as volunteer

staff for the agency. The services of Exodus Homes help to stabilize the community as a whole by reducing

crime, improving the economy and cultivating mentors for others in the Hickory area who are at risk of

addiction and incarceration. Last year 119 residents were able to benefit from the services provided by

Exodus Homes.

Exodus Works provides a number of for-hire services to the local community such as: lawn care and

landscaping, residential/commercial moving, gutter cleaning/pressure washing, painting, car wash/detailing

and help with odd jobs. You may request these services by calling the number found below.

In more recent news, Exodus Homes is in the midst of a capital campaign to pay for property located on 4th

Street SW where they will consolidate the offices of Exodus Homes, Exodus Works and the Thrift Store.

This move will allow portions of the old facility to return to residential use increasing their bed capacity to

75.

How can you help? Exodus Homes has a detailed wish list along with other information on their website

www.exodushomes.com. Contact Exodus Homes at 828-324-4870.
