IN OUR PARISH
PARISH PROJECTSAs good stewards of your generosity, the Facilities Team is pleased to provide you regular updates on St. Matthew campus projects, improvements, and on-going initiatives. It is hard to imagine that teachers will start coming back to organize their rooms as soon as four weeks from now. The classrooms have been cleaned, floors waxed and painted as they are put back together. We have started work on the offices, halls and restrooms while plans are being made to reopen the school in early September. The large areas, including the PAC, cafeteria and library will be the final interior areas to get attention. The four new tutor rooms will be drywalled next week followed by lights, HVAC and paint. The Back to School Task Force has been working hard with the Facilities Team on student logistical issues, distancing scenarios, room capacities and student arrivals/departures. How we come back is dependent on the county alert level. No matter how the first day of school looks, there will be more hand sanitizers installed, cleaning supplies available throughout the building and masks will be required. In the church, our new dedicated streaming equipment has been installed making it easier for others to help with this new and important ministry. Please contact us if you would like to be part of the Stream Team. Undercroft meeting rooms remain closed, although access to the Library is returning. With the high temperatures, not as much as been done outside. We are hoping to get back to painting fences and clearing a path for the new chain link fence going down the east property line.We appreciate this opportunity to provide updates on what we are doing on campus. Please don’t hesitate to text or email suggestions on how we can better serve you in these difficult times. Contact George Harvey at [email protected] or text 330-904-1083. Stay healthy and God Bless.
LIVING THE JOY OF THE GOSPEL!2020 BISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL
As we kick off the 2020 Bishop’s Annual Appeal this weekend, I want to share how this worthwhile program directly benefits our parish. Recall that pledges made to the BAA goes toward our fair share of funding the diocesan programs and initiatives, and once we surpass our goal, all monies come back to the parish free of the diocesan tax. Because of this rebate, we have accomplished such projects as sound system upgrades, church exterior stucco repairs, and repairs of the leaks around the Rose Window, to name a few.For the last four years, we have used the rebate to remodel the school kitchen and upgrade the church interior. With the school portion of the rebate, we saved $300,000 but then borrowed the other $300,000 to complete the project. This year’s rebate will go toward paying off this loan, which has a balance of $256,000. Once we pay off the remainder, we will start raising funds to finish the rest of that area as planned. For the church interior beautification, we have made improvements as BAA monies become available in the church portion of the rebate. The long-term plan for the church interior will progress each year to the degree we have rebate dollars.Given our pandemic situation, we have tried to make it as convenient as possible to participate in the BAA. Each household received my letter and a pledge envelope this week. Our BAA volunteers will make every effort to contact those who do not respond. To let us know your intentions and help our volunteers, please return the pledge envelope or visit https://www.stmatthew.net/baa.On behalf of Bishop Brennan, I thank all who have so generously supported the BAA in the past. Asking God to bless you for your prayerful and generous consideration of this worthwhile appeal, I amSincerely Yours in Christ,Fr. Ted
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR THOSE AFFECTED BY COVID-19 We know that many parishioners are struggling financially because of the economic impact of COVID-19, so we are happy to share that our parish has received an Emergency Response Grant from The Catholic Foundation to assist our parishioners during the COVID-19 outbreak. This fund is only available to St. Matthew parishioners. Guidelines given by the Catholic Foundation, as well as the discretion of our Pastor, will be used when determining eligibility and amount awarded. All applications are kept in strict confidence and are considered on the basis of need and eligibility. For more information and to apply, please go to our website, stmatthew.net, and click "COVID-19 Financial Assistance."
SACRED HEART ENTHRONEMENT – We invite everyone in the parish to learn more about enthroning their homes to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. You can learn more about Enthronement on the website www.WelcomeHisHeart.com. On this website, there are free videos which describe the Enthronement process and information how parishioners can order a self-Enthronement package that will be delivered to their homes. Parishioners can also pick up a kit at the St. Gabriel Catholic Radio station. A donation for the materials is requested, but not required.
EXPOSITION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT – The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed two nights a week for adoration. On Wednesdays and Fridays, from 5:00-9:00 p.m., St. Matthew will host full exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in the main body of the Church. We ask that all adorers sit in the first 5 rows in the center section of the Church, continuing to maintain at least 6-foot social distancing between family groups. Seating is restricted to these areas so that we can keep up with cleaning demands. Regular adorers who had been scheduled in our Perpetual Adoration Chapel have been sent a Sign-Up Genius link so that we can make sure someone is always praying during the hours when the Eucharist is exposed. Visitors are welcome to stop by at any time, but if you would like to commit to a regular hour, you can sign up by clicking the “Divine Mercy Perpetual Adoration Chapel” box on our website. The door to the far left of the main entrance of the Church will be open until 7:00 p.m. After 7:00 p.m., a keypad code will be required for entry. Those who previously had a regular hour in the Chapel already have a code; if you are a new adorer who would like to commit to a later hour, please contact Bryan Gebhart at [email protected]. Finally, our regular Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet that occurs over Zoom nightly at 8:30 p.m. will be streamed from the Church on Wednesdays and Fridays as a way to end the adoration time in communal prayer. We will continue to pray over Zoom, as well.

Visit www.sfdstallions.org/stallion-golf-outing to sign up for your spot and to learn more about the great sponsorship opportunities!
BEWARE OF PHONY E-MAILS AND TEXTS STILL CIRCULATING – During the past few weeks there have again been numerous phony emails sent to unsuspecting persons (clergy, teachers, parishioners, others) from alleged priests of the Diocese requesting funds to purchase various gift cards for alleged charitable and pastoral reasons. Please be aware that there is a new scam using text messages to convey similar requests. If you receive any kind of communication, please contact the person directly to verify the authenticity of the solicitation or, at least to notify the person that a scam is underway using their identity. Thank you.

STEWARDSHIP: HOW CAN WE HELP YOU? As good stewards of our Parish, we are called to care for and look after St. Matthew Parish and its parishioners. We want to know how our parishioners are doing in this time of struggle and fear. How can we help you? How can we pray for you? Please remember to check on your neighbors, check on your family, and check on those who are at risk, while practicing social distancing. If you have specific needs or prayers, please email Brooke Warren at [email protected] and she will make sure to add you to the prayer list or find a way to get your needs met. We know there are a lot of people struggling financially right now and we want to help, but to do that we need the support of our parishioners who are still able to donate. If you usually give via offertory envelopes, please consider using online giving during our time away from the church. Visit www.stmatthew.net/giving for more information. You can also call the parish and leave a message; someone will call you back with more information. Thank you!
