Optional huddle ups are for churches that have a drop-off time before the session begins. There are multiple ideas for interaction during this time, such as simple games that preschoolers can play on the floor or within whatever arrangements you gather your kids.

Playing Favorites

Invite kids to stand or sit in a circle. Use a beanbag to play a game of toss. Pick a category from the list below. As the beanbag is tossed, kids will say their favorite thing in that category. Change the category often and continue playing.

Possible categories: pets, ice cream flavor, candy, toy, book, song, place to visit, movie, kind of pizza.

Color “Deborah and Barak” Coloring Sheets

• Tell preschoolers that today they will have the opportunity to learn that people should make good choices.

• Distribute coloring supplies and coloring sheets to the preschoolers. Allow them to color on their pages while they wait for the session to begin.

It’s time to stand up and get our countdown going … I need you guys to help me! Ready? Here we go! 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1! Great job, guys! I’m wondering … how many of you have ever had a choice to make? That’s an easy answer … we all have, right? Have any of you ever made a bad choice? We’ve all done that too, haven’t we? It doesn’t feel very good to know we’ve made the wrong choice. But we don’t have to make bad choices. We can make good choices, but we need Someone’s help. Who is that Someone? Yes! God! God will help us make good choices. Today we want you to know that people should make good choices. (Show Life Point slide.) Let’s say that again together. (Repeat with slide.) People should make good choices. That doesn’t always happen, but with God’s help, we can be people who make good choices. Our Bible verse tells us that God will always be with us and help us make good choices.

Game Instructions

This game is a large version of a memory game. This game will be played in small groups (which is how our instructions are written below).

(enters after theme music plays) Hi, everyone! Welcome to Connection Point!

Today’s game will be played by everyone in small groups.

(The Host can help the kids make groups with a leader. A helpful strategy would be to call out the leader’s name and either assign or have the leader choose an equal number of kids. The number of teams will be based on your number of kids and leaders and sets of memory cards.)

First, our leaders will set up our games by placing all of the cards facedown (allows for this). When it’s your turn, you will choose two cards. If you make a match, you can keep those cards and it will be the next person’s turn. If they don’t match, turn them back over and keep them exactly where they were for the next person. Once all the matches are found, the game is over!

(Fun music can be played in the background while the groups play. If a group ends earlier than other groups, they can shuffle the cards and play again.)

Great job, everyone. How many of you found a match? Wonderful! You made great choices. Today we’re learning about how important it is to make good choices all of the time!

STORYTELLER

(Show Bible Story slide.) Hi, friends! I am so happy to be here with you today! Are you ready to hear an exciting true story from God’s Word? Great!

Deborah was a prophet. A prophet is someone who hears a message from God and then shares that message with anyone who needs to hear it. Deborah was also a judge. She ruled over God’s people, the Israelites. When God’s people were not loving and obeying God, Deborah would remind them of God and His Word.

One day, Deborah sent for a man named Barak (BAY rak). She told Barak that God was giving him a command. God said, “Go! Take 10,000 men to fight Sisera.” Sisera was the leader of the enemy army. God said, “I will hand the enemy army over to you.” God was going to help Barak have the victory over the enemy.

Do you think Barak was afraid? Can you show me what afraid looks like? (allows for responses) Wow, you look like you are afraid. Good job!

(Open the Bible and read Judges 4:8.) Barak told Deborah,“If you will go with me, I will go. But if you will not go with me, I will not go.” Deborah agreed, but she told Barak that if she did, then a woman would get the credit for the victory. Deborah, Barak, and 10,000 men went to fight Sisera and the enemy army. Let’s stand and march in place. (allows for marching for a few seconds) Everyone, sit down. Good job!

God was with Barak, Deborah, and the Israelite army that day. They made the right choice to do what God said, and God helped Barak and his 10,000 men win the battle with Sisera and his army.

(Show Christ Focus slide.) We know that we should make good choices, but it’s not always easy to do, is it? Did you know that when we trust Jesus as our Savior, He helps us make choices that make God happy? When Jesus is helping us, good choices are easier! Let’s say together, People should make good choices.

Let’s thank God for His help in our life. God, thank You for helping us make good choices. Thank You for loving us. Thank You for Your true Word. We love You. Amen.

• Tell kids that one important thing they can do is pray for missionaries.

Missions Story: Stibuno

Steven Kunkel works as a missionary in Japan, but Steven has a special story. Steven likes to draw. He draws a manga character called Stibuno. Manga is a style of Japanese comic book that is very popular. The stories in these comic books usually are about violence, adventure, romance, and action. But Steven’s character, Stibuno, is about the love of Jesus.

In the stories Steven writes, Stibuno’s greatest challenge is for him to live in a world that does not know about Jesus. Stibuno wants to become a leader and share the gospel. Steven’s greatest challenge is to share the gospel using his gifts. Steven says: “Stibuno reminds me a lot about my childhood and how God has been helping me grow.”

Steven’s parents are missionaries in South America. Steven was diagnosed with autism when he was 1 year old. Autism is a brain disorder. Some people with autism are nonsocial—they do not like to talk to people or be touched by people.

But God helped Steven. He loves being with other people and serving God. Even though he was told he could never speak another language, he can now speak five languages, including Japanese.

“I would never imagine that I would really speak Japanese and become a major part of this church in Japan,” Steven says.

In Japan, Steven works for a Filipino-Japanese church. He translates for the pastor, teaches English to Japanese kids, helps in the youth ministry, and plays keyboard in the church band.


WORSHIPTMSteven says he is much like his character Stibuno. He has been given new armor. Being far away

from his family, he has learned to depend on God for help. He knows he was made to serve God, tell people about Jesus, and tell people how God helped him.

Steven wants people with disabilities to know that they can have the hope of serving God. Not everyone is made the same. Steven wants people to never give up or lose hope because God is working in their lives.
