The SOUTH/CENTRAL NEW JERSEY PA RETIREES’ Luncheon was an idea that developed during an informal lunch get together at The Captain’s Inn, Forked River, NJ, in August, 2007. It was agreed that the location would be a good choice for a SOUTH/CENTRAL NEW JERSEY PA RETIR-
EES’ luncheon. The first event was held on Thursday, September 20, 2007 with 32 attendees. It has since evolved into a quarterly lunch-eon, held on the third Thursday: January, April, July, and, October. Attendance continues to grow and exceed expectations.
The group plans to continue to meet quarterly at The Captain’s Inn . The next luncheon will be held on Thursday, July19th 2018
This is the 2018 Spring issue which you are perusing.

Among other things it is nice to
notice that there are indications
of more “mixing” among previ-
ous sets of folks, as we get to
know one another better. And the
growing presence of females as
well as guests has been gratifying as well. A very special “spirit” has developed
over the many years. Many regular attendees readily recall that initially they thought
they simply did not know very many of the people but very quickly found they were
heartily welcomed and encouraged to join others at their tables. Although the PA
was always a large organization it somehow fostered a family, or home like atmos-
phere. What mattered was that you were a part of it, and therefore you belonged.
And so it is with our luncheons, which likely explains why attendance is always rela-
tively high and encourages returning regularly. Are we having fun yet? You bet we
are. And therefore we look forward to your presence at the next luncheon as well.

Waddaguy!

Why South Central Jersey? Ever wonder why our luncheon is entitled SOUTH CENTRAL JERSEY PORT AUTHORITY RETIREE’S LUNCHEON? Or, SCJPARET(s). Well, here’s taking a stab at it: • South essentially encompasses mostly the southern portion of the state • Central as well as a significant portion of the central realm • Jersey short for full name of state: NEW JERSEY • Port Authority originally THE PORT OF NEW YORK AUTHORITY, evolving to THE PORT AUTHORITY OF NY & NJ • RETiree’s that’s who we are, and who it’s for • Luncheon that’s what we do, what it’s all about–nothing else. Of course, there are no restrictions and ALL RETIREES are always welcomed, In fact, even active employees are as well. Spouses, significant others, and friends are encouraged, too. New attendees are designated as “NEWBIES” and so identified (slightly harassed in good humor, and color coded) in the e-newsletter that follows their initial luncheon. Attendees have included executive, adminis-trators, engineers, planners, financial, field employees, police, clerical–in other words just about everyone, every job title, or cate-gory. And everyone is on an equal level at our luncheons.
Be sure to put the next date on your calendar and plan on being there on Thursday, July19th
2018 !
Don’t miss out! We sure want to see you there, next time.

Note: if anyone, in any of the photos,
have been identified incorrectly,
please do let us know! We do try our very best…but…
Due to rare, unusual circumstances the sometimes hotly anticipated 50-50 could not take place.
Thus, no winners to display. But since it is primarily to help support some of the necessary
administrative expenses we could mange without it this time, but it can be looked forward to at the next
July 19th “Summer” luncheon, which if the weather cooperates may be held outdoors, across the street
at THE CAPTAIN’S INN’S TIKI BAR by the waterside.

–Thank you, Liz, for updating the data below–
Tell or show folks how to get here and join
us… you can start with these…
This is our 11h Year (Volume XI) and this is issue #2.
Just keep in mind the 3rd Thursday of the months of January, April, July and October. We have also been
most fortunate to have a most cooperative restaurant, THE CAPTAIN’S INN, in FORKED RIVER, NJ, that has made
our planning that much easier–the price right & reasonable, the food just great. Hope to see YOU soon
(again).
Feedback is always welcome, and thus far it has been encouraging, very favorable and most welcome.
We hope you will continue to join us. Put it down on your calendar, lest you forget while making other plans.
W e’ve certainly got a good thing going. Thanks
to the foresight of those who started the ball
rolling, this part of south-central New Jersey
has indeed become a somewhat major event attracting
folks from all over. The formula initially established still
holds true–” good friends, good food, good God, lets
eat!” Most of us are well beyond the formalities of dinners
dominated by meaningless speeches or other needless
distractions. The object here is namely to provide the en-
vironment and atmosphere for old friends, colleagues and
acquaintances to come together at a minimal and reason-
able cost, irrespective of weather conditions.
The Captain’s Inn, centrally located in Forked River, has
provided all we could ask for, and has thus remained the
focal gathering point for all of our luncheons. Can we do
more? Well that’s up to you, those in attendance and who
come regularly are encouraged to express their opinions
and ideas. Our luncheons can be a central communica-
tions point, at least quarterly, for sharing news and the
very latest about THE PORT AUTHORITY OF NEW YORK AND
NEW JERSEY, especially with regard to we faithful retirees.
accessible by boat, too!
BTW–In case you’ve been wondering “yada yada yada”
represents all the wonderful, joyful, fun-filled –even nostalgic, conversations going on.

Er, no folks…the “New-Bie” symbol depicted in the photos are not for real. That is, “New-Bies” are not actually required to wear them (they don’t
exist). It is merely our hope, that by pointing them out, it might en-courage some readers out there to join in the fun, and attend the next quarterly luncheon and actually get to see and say hello to old friends, colleagues and acquaint-ances. How about it?
To be kept informed about the latest SCJPARET luncheon and related activities make sure you provide your necessary data, i.e., [1] Full Name, [2]E-mail address, [3] Mailing address (with Zip Code), [4] Telephone Number(s), and optionally [5] your preferred single PA De-partment affiliation.
