We look forward to welcoming them to our school and benefitting from their outstanding teaching practice. 2019 School Leaders Congratulations to all the students who presented speeches for the 2019 school leadership positions. The standard of our nominees was outstanding and while not all will be lucky enough to gain selection, all will be viewed as important leaders in our school community for 2019. Gold Award Winners Well done to all students who have received Gold Awards for 2018. These lucky students will receive a permission note shorty for their rewards day at Peninsula Leisure Centre. This event is free of charge and parents are only required to return the permission slip by the specified date. Ready for School This Thursday our ‘Ready for School’ program concludes for our 2019 kindergarten students. We hope that all new families and students have enjoyed the program… and are looking forward to having you as part of the WWS family in 2019. If you know of anyone with Kindergarten age children for 2019, please don’t hesitate to invite them along to be a part of the program. Please contact the office if you’d like any further details. Year 2 – 3 Transition Information AWARDS AND REWARDS Certificates “Merit Certificates”, “Superstars” and “Aussie of the Month” awards continue in Years 3-6. These awards are presented at our weekly assembly on Friday and listed in the weekly newsletter. Certificates may be for a specified learning area or be for an aspect of the school week as designated by the class teacher. A “Superstar” award is also given out targeting one of the values we emphasise e.g. Respect, Responsibility and Relationships. Going For Gold Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards continue in Years 3-6. Class Dojo is used as a system whereby students earn points that accumulate over the year. Students earn these points for a variety of reasons e.g. effort, application to work, collaboration, showing initiative and helping others. A Bronze is 50 points, a Silver is 100 points and a Gold is 150 points. The students strive to achieve their Gold Award and as a reward they get to attend a special Gold Excursion at the end of the year. Bluey Awards Another of our positive reward systems uses “Blueys” These are given out by teachers over the week and by prefects in Friday assemblies for good behaviour. Each term we hold a PBL Rewards Day where students can trade “Blueys” to purchase a voucher for a particular reward that we are offering. E.g. Crazy Hair, No Homework or Computer Time. Stage 3 Canberra Excursion Report 2018

Students from our school have recently undertaken an education tour of the National Capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational

programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the National Capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist

families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributed part of the funding of each student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program

towards those costs.

The children were absolutely amazing during the excursion and we couldn’t be more proud of how they conducted themselves. We look forward to the possibility of having our Canberra

trip in 2020. A special thanks to all of the Stage 3 staff that gave up their time over two nights to supervise the children, it was very much appreciated by all.

Additionally, thank you to Coastal Liner Educational Tours and the Bush Capital Lodge for

their organisation and accommodation.

Mr Lincoln Assistant Principal (Rel.) Stage 3
