3 Point Deduction to Stand

Aberystwyth Town Football Club have decided not to

further challenge the 3 point deduction imposed on

them by the Football Association of Wales for fielding

a player while under suspension.

The club did have until Monday the 17th of February

to inform the FAW whether they intended to take the

case to arbitration or not.

The FAW welcomed Aberystwyth's early notification

of their decision.

CHIEF executive Andrew Edwards has sounded a

rallying call as Port Talbot Town prepare to begin their

Play-off Conference campaign.

After a disappointing start to the season, the Steelmen

missed out on a place in the top half competition despite

finishing strongly before the Welsh Premier League

split.

Last Saturday’s defeat to Rhyl came after a six-game

unbeaten run, and Edwards is confident that Port Talbot

can make their mark as they chase a chance for

European football. Finishing seventh would secure entry to the end-of season

play-offs, where teams fight for a Europa League spot.

“We’ve got nothing to fear. On paper we’ve got as strong

a squad as anyone and we’ll be going full out to get that

seventh spot,” said Edwards.

“We had loftier ambitions at the start of the season, but we

are where we are and with the exception of the Rhyl result

I think we’ve turned the corner.

“Going into the final ten games, the bottom half will be

very competitive. We the exception of Afan Lido,

everyone will fancy themselves for seventh spot.

“I think it’ll be more competitive than the top half because

the teams there already know they’ll be in the play-offs.

“We have more to play for.”

Getting into the knockouts would present an opportunity

for Continental football and a huge financial injection for

the club.

They begin that quest with a visit to Prestatyn on Saturday.

“The players want that seventh spot because they all want

the chance to play in Europe,” added Edwards.

“A lot of players have played there before and it’s a great

feeling.

“And from the club’s point of view the financial rewards

are huge. To a club at our level £100,000 makes a massive

difference.”

qualification Northop Hall withdraw

from WPWL Northop Hall Girls FC have informed the Welsh

Premier Women’s League Panel that they are

withdrawing from the League with immediate effect.

The club have struggled to attract senior players all

season and felt that it would be unfair to continue until

the end of the campaign with a depleted side. They have

taken this difficult decision sooner rather than later to

protect the integrity of the League.

All of Northop Hall’s results this season will be

expunged and obviously all remaining matches will be

cancelled. This will also mean that only one club will be

relegated from the Shared Access WPWL at the end of

this season.

Elain Owen, first team manager, commented

‘Making the decision at this point hopefully brings less

disruption to the League and the Club as a whole. In the

short term it may not be a positive outcome, however

continuing would have had a more detrimental effect

upon all. Having a high standard women’s league within

Wales is a great achievement and something which

every player should aim to be a part of. We wish all

Clubs every success for the remainder of the season.’

Mark Connolly of Bala Town Sgorio have announced WPL Player, Manager and Goal of the Month for January 2014 with Bala Town

picking up two awards and Lee Hunt securing Goal of the Month for his delicate control and chip over

the Newtown keeper at Bastion Gardens.

Bala's month began with a 4-2 away win at the Corbett Sports Stadium against Rhyl in which Mark

Connolly scored one of the goals against his former club.

Following that result The Lakesiders lost to Carmarthen Town on penalties in the theWord Cup Final in

Aberystwyth.

The Maes Tegid outfit then beat Bangor City 1-0 at home in the WPL with Connolly scoring the winner

before hammering Afan Lido 6-1 away in South Wales. Connolly snatched four of the goals to take his

tally for January to six and his season total to 12, making him the league's joint leading goal scorer with

Chris Venables of Aberystwyth Town.

ABERYSTWYTH TOWN www.atfc.org.uk An Appeals Panel of the Football Association of Wales sat today (7th February 2014) to consider an appeal by

Aberystwyth Town Football Club.

Aberystwyth Town were appealing against the decision of a Disciplinary Panel who fined the club £250.00 and

deducted 3 (three) points from their Welsh Premier League First Phase record under FAW Rule 38.1.6, for

allegedly fielding a player whilst under suspension in their Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League match against

Gap Connah’s Quay on 4th January 2014.

The Appeals Panel decided to dismiss Aberystwyth Town’s appeal and that the original punishment imposed on

the club remains in place.

Aberystwyth Town have until Tuesday, 18th February 2014 to refer the matter to an Independent Arbitration

Panel.

There were groans all round early last Saturday morning when the

news came through that the match at Nantporth against Bangor City

had been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

"It's a long way to come for a free breakfast," said midfielder Luke

Bowen. "It will have been a nine hour round trip for nothing and

we'll have to do it all again later in the season."

His frustration was obvious as were those of all the other players

sitting in the dining room of the hotel overlooking the Menai Straits.

They had left work on Friday afternoon and driven in a convoy of

cars through the heart of Wales to get to Bangor in time for a snack

and a drink before the 10.30pm night curfew.

"I had them up at 7am," muttered manager Mark Aizlewood, "in

order to make sure they had eaten a decent breakfast before we went

for a light training session."

"It was then my plan to get to the ground ninety minutes before the

late morning kick-off and go through some more warm-up routines

on the main pitch."

The match had been switched away from Richmond Park due to the

on-going pitch problems in Carmarthen. When S4/C were told what was happening they immediately

scheduled the televised game for an early morning slot before the Wales international rugby match.

With only six days’ notice it had been a struggle to find a hotel with twenty beds available. Eventually (and

with some help from Bangor City manager Neville Powell) Mark was able to find the right place which, as

he said, "is only a six minute walk away from the ground."

It was not only the players and team management who had to get organised. Who would look after the kit

and accoutrements as kitman Gareth Davies (he prefers the title 'Equipment Manager') was unavailable?

Could physiotherapist Matthew Lewis travel? If not, who could take his place?

From my point of view, as Media Manager, it was an immediate contact with Kevin Owen, Bangor's

programme editor. What information did he want from me? Eventually he needed only six pages which was

easy as the Club History; Player Profiles; Player Photographs and a team picture were all prepared and

ready to go.

Then there had to be liaison with our radio partners. BBC Radio Cymru normally need just team news the

day prior to the game whereas Radio Carmarthenshire and their other five sister stations usually need

various previews and reports leading up to Saturday.

Nowadays the internet has to be serviced, not just the club's website managed expertly by Huw Davies, but

various bloggers and others who report on the Welsh Premier League.

Naturally the Journal had to be informed of the sudden change of venue as did additional newspapers and

media outlets.

Other people within Carmarthen Town Football Club have to swing into action. Secretary Gareth Jones had

to prepare all the necessary paperwork and continually liaise with his Bangor counterpart, even for an away

fixture.

John Collyer, who writes the match reports, had had to make sure there was someone to look after his

Pencader farm while he travelled. He got as far as Dolgellau before I 'phoned him with the news of the

postponement. "Ah, well," he sighed. "I suppose I'll have to go back and carry on mucking-out."

Regular supporters of the team, many of whom thought they would miss out, would in all probability now

be able to attend the game when it is eventually re-arranged.

There are, obviously, many other people who help run the club and the team. A rushed fixture like last

Saturday sees many just click into action. Without them, and they really are unsung heroes, there would be

no Carmarthen Town.

The ten-week course, run in partnership with social enterprise company Vi-Ability, involves two sessions a week

and aims to provide unemployed people from the local community with an opportunity to learn about the football

qualifications.

The New Saints U19’s will take on Taff’s Well in the Quarter Final of the FAW Welsh Youth Cup on Sunday

after Sunday’s match was postponed due to the weather.

The Saints beat Gap Connah’s Quay in the third round and will now travel down to South Wales on Sunday,

hoping to continue the good form and book a semi-final spot against either Llandudno Town or Caerleon.

Steve Evans’ side are currently top of the Under 19’s WPL Youth Premier League and ‘Evo’ is really looking

forward to the tie, ‘The lads have prepared really well and we are more than ready for the match. We are really

determined to go through and I am going into the game confident of getting result because I know that we have a

lot of ability in the squad.’ The away match will kick off at 14:00pm.

The New Saints Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Lee Fowler.

The former Doncaster Rovers midfielder has joined The Saints on a

free transfer and will wear the number 15 shirt for TNS.

Fowler began his career with Coventry City and has had spells with

Huddersfield Town, Newport County and Wrexham. The Cardiff-

born footballer recently left Kidderminster Harriers and will be

hoping that his wealth of experience will help his new side claim a

third Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League title on the trot.

The former Wales Under-21 was pleased to have joined The Saints

and said, ‘I am pleased to have signed and it is a really good

opportunity for me to play some games. I have been speaking to

Craig (Harrison) quite regularly over the past two seasons and I

nearly signed for TNS last summer but the deal didn’t materialise.’

Fowler, 30, also expressed his excitement at joining the Corbett

Sports Welsh Premier League Champions, ‘I am excited to start and I already knew a few of the lads here so I am

really looking forward to it. I know Connell Rawlinson because I live in the same village as him. I have also

played against Jamie Mullan quite a few times so I know him too.’

The 5ft7in midfielder also gave the TNS fans a clue of what they can expect to see from him and revealed hat he

nearly joined the Oswestry based side a decade ago, ‘I will bring composure on the ball and add a bit of

experience in the midfield. I am definitely a winner, both in training and in the match, I always want to win. I am

hoping to add a bit of leadership to the side. I also nearly signed for the club on loan whilst I was at Huddersfield,

during when Ken McKenna was here.’

There’s no doubt that it’s been a hugely frustrating few weeks for everyone concerned

with the Aberystwyth points deduction issue.

It is a great relief that the club has notified the FAW today that they will not be referring

the matter to an independent arbitrator. This thankfully concludes the matter and means

that Rhyl are confirmed in the Top 6 and that Aber will have to keep their European

dreams alive through either the Welsh Cup or the Play Off system.

I would like to place my thanks to Aberystwyth’s committee on record for informing the

FAW of their decision a full week before they had to do so. This allows the full fixture

list to resume this weekend and also means that we can concentrate on footballing issues

if the weather is agreeable of course.

The adverse weather will have an impact on the remaining Phase 2 fixtures and I’d like to

thank all of the club secretaries in advance for their co-operation and understanding

during this process.

Does dim amheuaeth bod yr wythnosau diwethaf wedi bod yn hynod o rwystredig i bawb

sydd wedi cael eu heffeithio gan achos diddymu triphwynt Aberystwyth.

Mae’n rhaid i mi fod yn gwbl onest fy mod wedi ochneidio ochenaid drom o ryddhad

heddiw pan glywais bod Aber wedi cadarnhau na fyddent yn mynd ậ’u hachos drwy

broses gymodi. Fe allai hynny fod wedi amharu’n sylweddol ar drefn ail ran y tymor ond

diolch i’r drefn fe allwn ganolbwyntio bellach ar ar faterion ar y meysydd chwarae – os

bydd y duwiau tywydd yn caniatau!

Hoffwn ddatgan fy niolch diffuant i swyddogion clwb Coedlan y Parc am gyhoeddi eu

bwriad wythnos cyn oedd raid - sydd yn galluogi clybiau eraill chwarae gemau’r

penwythnos yma.

Oherwydd y gohiriadau sydd wedi digwydd o ganlyniad i achos Aberystwyth a’r tywydd

garw – bydd yn rhaid i mi ail wampio nifer o gemau yn ystod ail ran y tymor. Hoffwn

ddiolch ymlaen llaw i ysgrifenyddion ein clybiau am eu cydweithrediad a’u dealltwriaeth

yn ystod y broses hon.

Gobeithio y bydd Derek Brockway yn dangos yr un cydweithrediad yn ystod yr

wythnosau nesaf hefyd.
