“Disobedience”

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horse- men, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel, or seek help from the Lord.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.

King Solomon built the Lord’s Temple, his own palace . . . and the cities of Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer . . . He built up Lower Beth Horon, Baalath, and Tadmor in the desert . . . as well as all his store cities and the towns for his chariots and horses . . . King Solomon also built ships at Ezion Geber, which is near Elath in Edom on the shore of the Red Sea.

Solomon’s fortified cities controlled the major trade arteries around and through the Holy Land. Hazor, Megiddo, Gezer as well as Lower Beth Horon, Baalath and Todmor occupied critical positions along the trade routes within the tribe of Judah.

Solomon did not love God’s Word.

How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your Word.

Lessons for Us:

Sin looks beneficial at first.

Unacknowledged sin leads to more sin, and may eventually destroy your life.

We will experience the consequences for sin in this life – it’s only a matter of time.

If you want to be obedient to the Lord – you’ve got to fall in love with His Word.
