writing and rhetoric reflection

Connor Tomshack Dr. McLaughlin WR 13300 29 April 2015 Writing and Rhetoric Reflection The purpose of this portfolio is to document all of the major works that I have done over the course of the semester, in order to achieve two ends: to demonstrate my understanding of the writing process and to track my progress over the semester. My understanding of the writing process is primarily shown in the supplementary documents, documents that were made in preparation for the final draft. They provide evidence that each of my major works were the result of a process, and were not simply hastily written at the end without any process at all. The portfolio also shows the evolution of my writing process. The writing process is much more evident in the later major papers than in the first couple. The portfolio also shows my understanding of argumentation, and how that has evolved over the semester. This is most evidently shown in the rhetorical analysis and the research essay. In both of these, the thesis is supported by appropriate evidence and the potential counterarguments are addressed. These two papers in particular demonstrate my understanding of rhetoric as they are the ones that employ argumentation the most. My understanding of critical research and thinking skills, however, are best demonstrated by the research essay and the TED talk. These two projects were preceded by more research than the others, and this research and critical reading has allowed me to improve my skills in finding appropriate resources for study across multiple media and deciding which of these sources will be of the most use.
