to establish electrical lighting. By buying patents from inventors, he made the light bulb industry

a commercially viable success. Edison used his creative wits to combine unsuccessful attempts

MEMORANDUM

DATE: October 24, 2009

TO: Chairman Sutherland

FROM: Erin Edwards, director of public information of the Cosmopolitan Bus Authority

SUBJECT: DISCONTINUANCE OF BUS ROUTES D AND F

The operations of Cosmopolitan Bus Authority were thoroughly studied by an outside consultant firm, Car-Mel Associates. The firm’s reports concluded that either both Routes D and F be discontinued or that rates be raised to 90 cents. The board met and reevaluated Car-Mel Associates’ recommendations because people were unsatisfied with this news. After further discussion and voting, the board decided on sacrificing the two routes and keeping the current fare of 75 cents to avoid an annual deficit. Routes D and F will be discontinued on Friday, Oct. 31. Please take into consideration the available means of communicating this news to the effected public:

• Writing a press release and distributing it in the Tribune • Announcing the information via radio and television • Passing out and posting fliers around bus stops and on the buses • Displaying posters on the ad area inside the bus • Providing the new information on the CBA Web site

Press releases, mass media and fliers are most recommended. The local newspaper and television stations have a large circulation of readers and viewers. Fliers are more convenient for on-the-site and face-to-face informing that specifically target the bus riders themselves. If you have any further questions, call me at ext. 5555. I look forward to working with you.

November 27, 2009 Letter to the Editor New York Times 500 Peachtree Ave. Buffalo, NY 23290 To the Editor: The Samaritan House would like to thank the community for supporting our annual Thanksgiving dinner event. We were able to serve a generous portion of turkey, dressing, green bean casserole, cornbread, macaroni and cheese and sweet potato pie to over 300 needy people. With the help of 60 volunteers, we were able to serve a wonderful dinner in a timely fashion. “The food was good and I didn’t have to wait long to be served,” said single father Bob Downs. Local motivational speaker Sandra Williams of the World Hunger Founder of Buffalo closed the event with some encouraging words. “Everyone here should be very proud of their community fighting for a common cause, Williams said. As the Holidays are approaching, The Samaritan House is also hosting community support services such as Toys for Tots, an angel tree and a Christmas dinner. We hope that you can further contribute to our special community events. Donations of any kind would be greatly appreciated by the Samaritan House Association. One small contribution can make one big change in a person’s life. Again, the Samaritan House Association would like to thank you for your generous contributions towards our Thanksgiving dinner event. We encourage everyone to participate in our upcoming holiday affair. Call Kathy Gaines at 656-718-9944 for more information. Sincerely, Kathy Gaines Associate Coordinator
