Beware of mispellings. Here are some words that are usually misspelled:

Just because they have the same pronunciation, it doesn’t mean
they have the same meaning.
Its and It’s It’s a nice dog because its fur is golden brown.
Contraction of it is Shows possession
They’re, Their, and There
They’re living in a big mansion with their parents. However, their
grandparents are not there.

naming a place, a thing, or the existence of something

Use apostrophes to show possession and contractions.
I saw Missy’s bag under the oak tree.
I can’t love someone who isn’t willing to fight for our

They should be properly used in joining two independent
clauses joined by coordinating conjunctions (for, and,
nor, but, or, yet, so)

If colons & semicolons are misused, comma splices happen.
For example:
Fanning the slice of pizza with a napkin, Jolene waited
for it to cool, she had already burned the roof of her
mouth with the fried cheese sticks.

Run on sentences are poorly punctuated sentences. This can be
fixed by adding a comma or a semicolon in the sentences.
For example:
She is very fat, she is short.
She is very fat, and she is very short.
Correct:
Incorrect:
She is very fat; she is very short.

Be sure to put the direct speech inside quotation
marks. Separate it with a comma.
My mother said, “Get up here and fix your things.”
Benigno Aquino once said, “The Filipino is worth dying for.”

Use the active and the passive voice of verbs
appropriately in sentences.
Instead of
Someone built this church in the 1900s.
This church was built in the 1900s.
