The adventures of daring heroes, spiteful

gods, beautiful women and terrible monsters

around the forests, lakes and cities of Sicily

continue in this second volume.

We will descend in the netherworld in the

company of Hades and beautiful

Persephone, abducted while playing at the

lake of Pergusa. The island of Ortigia

becomes the setting of the infatuation of

the god Alpheus for the nymph Arethusa.

Next we’ll meet the mighty Heracles and his

twelve labors. And what about mount Etna?

It’s right there that Hephaestus has his

workshop. Lastly we’ll fl y over the island

with the feathered and waxed wings of

runaway Daedalus to arrive at the court of

king Cocalus.

The young Colapesce tells us two

worlds: one below and one above.

One silent, magical, mysterious, the

other loud, pompous, hectic. His pure

gaze, his marvelous explorations, are

colored by poetry and melancholy,

one of the most beautiful

Mediterranean legends. A story in

rhyme Rich of strong feelings, which

covers with a veil of salsa the soul of

the listener. In the CD, Riccardo

Francaviglia’s narrator voice is

accompanied by six popular songs

composed and played by Laura

Francaviglia.

Taken from a fairy tale

of Giuseppe Pitrè

A clever fox, a young man pretending of

being an Earl, a king and a beautiful princess

are the characters of this old tale, a redrafted

version of the folk tale Puss in Boots.

Puss in boots is one of the most famous folk

tales but few people know that the story not

always has a cat as a main character! In an

ancient folk version, the main character is a

fox. This is the case of Fox Giovannuzza or the

Clever Fox, passed down by two great

passionate researchers of folk studies:

Giuseppe Pitrè and Laura Gonzenbach.

Giuseppe Pitrè

Giovannuzzaor the Cleaver Fox

Illustrated by

Angelo liccirdello

The Illustrator

Angelo Licciardello was born

in Catania on the 21st of

December 1990, the day of

the Autumnal equinox. Since

he was a child he has preferred

to express himself using

drawing instead of words.

This is why after attending the

Art school he applied for the

Fine Arts Academy and his

drawings right from the start

travelled around Italy due to

his participation to some

exhibits.

Fox Giovannuzza, or the Clever

Fox is his first children’s book

as an illustrator.

Taken from a fairy tale

of Giuseppe Pitrè

A young man in love, a spoiled princess, and

one, two, actually no three precious secrets

to keep! This is a little known, funny tale,

from our folk literary Italian tradition.

The Princess with the Horns is a very old folk

tale, that it is believed to date back to the

Fifteen century. Throughout the centuries,

having been passed on orally to one

generation to the other like the game of the

wireless phone, it had slightly changed,

because whoever told it either added

something to the narration or removed

something out of it. It is thanks to the work

of two great passionate researchers of folk

studies – Giuseppe Pitrè and Laura

Gonzenbach – if this tale hadn’t been lost

and had arrived to us.

Giuseppe Pitrè

The princesswhit the Horns

Illustrated by

Carmelo Petronio

The illustrator

Carmelo Petronio was born on the

1st of June 1994 in Adrano, a small

town at the foothill of Etna,

holding a sheet of paper and a

pencil in his hand. He moved to

Catania at the age of fourteen to

fulfill his dream to become a great

artist: in Catania he learned to use

watercolors, chalk, charcoal and

even oil-based paint, finding out to

have not only a great passion for

drawing but also for painting. Once

he had finished Art school, he

enrolled in the Art Academy.

His adventure in the field of

illustration started this way, with

the help of some magical objects –

the pencil and the brush – like the

ones used by the main character of

the tale the Princess with the Horns.

Placing wings and flying out is an ancient

dream as the world. It is the most

accomplished picture of freedom, the best

understood, the one best suited to our desire

to be free! This book proposes a path (plane)

Talking are coming out a thousand of

questions. And the answers that children give
