Free Cooling (FC)The entire STULZ Explorer Screw range is available in Free Cooling version, with air/water (non freezable mixture) exchanger coils integrated in all the models and able to provide the entire cooling capacity of the chillers even from temperatures close to 0°C.Thanks to Stulz C2020 electronic controller the operation of the Free Cooling system is optimized according to the external temperature; by mixing the Chiller and Free Cooling functions it fully exploits heat recovery from the cold external air and reduce the electrical consumption.

Energy rating The STULZ Explorer chiller range fulfill the requirements of higher Energy Classes. According to the sizes and versions the energy class can be A or B, with an EER that can easily exceed the value of 3 under nominal Eurovent con-ditions and can achieve seasonal yield at highest levels.

Condensing battery with W-shape geometry The MicroChannel condenser coils are entirely made in aluminum and expressly designed and realized to maximize the yield of the chillers, preserving reduced dimensions. The W-shape geometry has an angle designed, tested and proven specifically to avoid points of failure of the batteries and the imbalance of the refrigerant circuits. The use of a W-shape geometry ensures an optimal air flow through the coils, allowing to reduce the noise of the refrigerator both in Chiller or Free Cooling mode.

EEV electronic expansion valve The evaporation of the refrigerant gas into the cooling circuits is guaranteed by latest generation electronic thermostatic valves. Together with appropriate pressure switches, temperature probes and the electronic controller Stulz C2020 the valves optimize the thermal exchange into the evaporator, preserving the upstream and downstream components from high temperatures or icing. The operating and calibration logic of the electronic thermostatic valves lies in the electronic controller Stulz C2020.

Reliability at high level The units are designed and realized to obtain the maximum strength and flexibility, ensuring the integrity of the machine both during the transport on truck or container, than in the continuous exposure to atmospheric agents. The disposition of internal components is conceived to ease the ordinary maintenance and ensure a long service life of the chiller. The double cooling circuit with screw compressors equipped with splitter control, is able to adapt at different thermal loads, optimizing the operating of the chiller and guaranteeing the longevity of the components also in intensive use (H24/365)

Low Noise (SL)The low noise version (UNI EN 14511) reduces considerably the sound pressure level of the entire chiller, thanks to the adoption of appropriate solutions, like:- acoustic insulation of each compressor and pump (if installed)- fans speed reduction, with check of the condensing coils size

Quick connectionsAll hydraulic connections are equipped with rapid connections for a greater ease of installation and possible maintenance.

Outdoor installation WSA Explorer is designed to be used on any outdoor installation. The electrical panel, with IP54 protection, guarantees an adequate security for electric and electronic components. The different options allow a further extension of the operating limits both at low and high temperatures, with enhanced protection for highly corrosive environments.

STULZ Explorer units (WSA160 to WSA640) can be selected with onboard Free Cooling, while versions with a higher cooling capacity are designed for connection to a dry cooler unit. Chillers with integrated Free Cooling are provided with Free Cooling coils for the water circuit, a three-way valve and a hydronic group with 1 pump. As standard, the Free Cooling configuration also includes the cataphoresis treatment of Microchannel condensing coils in order to avoid galvanic corrosion due to the proximity of other water exchangers. The cost effectiveness of a system with integrated Free Cooling and its ROI (return on investment) depend on the working conditions, the cooling unit efficiency and the climatic conditions on the installation site.

All these factors are integrated into STULZ selection software, which is able to simulate chiller operating conditions in more than 300 cities in the world, calculating the annual saving of money and energy (kWh) very accurately. For instance, it is possible to enter the altitude value of the installation and to factor in the density of air in the chiller performance calculation. The kWh cost can also be varied. During the simulation, the software also takes the variation of fans speed in Mix-Mode (combination between Free Cooling and compressor cooling) into consideration.

In temperate climates north and south of the equatorial zone, the energy-saving advantages of Indirect Free Cooling can be fully exploited. Electricity consumption for data center air condi-tioning will drop by up to 60%.

STULZ Explorer chillers were developed to cover an entire range of applications (from process industry to data centers). STULZ Explorer units are designed for a high energy class (Class A) or to work in extreme environmental conditions. They also come in very precise configurations with temperature controls dedicated to the application.

In almost all applications, the thermal load and ambient temperature conditions are highly variable. STULZ Explorer units closely match all environmental and load conditions, achieving a high seasonal efficiency (ESEER) – even higher than 5. High ESEER values lead to significant energy savings.

The “mind” of the STULZ Explorer Screw chiller is the Stulz C2020 electronic control, developed by Stulz to achieve the best performance from every component. In the Stulz Explorer range with screw compressors have been implemented new functions in order to obtain the best management of the new components. Memory and calculation speed are increased, allowing a better and faster control of all the components and preserving the durability of the units. The numerous functions and parameters are summarized in a few simple steps and screens, which allow the user to easily keep under control the chiller correct operation. A 7” liquid crystal display with touch screen acts as an interface between the user and the chiller. The display reports all the information on: operation status, working time, alarm history and alarm signals. Furthermore it allows to start, stop and modify the chiller operation.
