Here’s your chance to put a big-name, Gran Reserva Rioja on your dinner table with an unrepeatable $120 savings (33% off).

Times are tough in Spain — many of our friends in Rioja are struggling to sell their finest reds. One in particular — a very prestigious bodega — has offered us their top-shelf Gran Reserva from the region’s superlative 2001 vintage for UNDER $20 a bottle.

The only condition — we can’t name the estate, or the deal is off.

Hidden behind the label is one stellar Rioja, sent directly from the cellar. It has all the sumptuously mellow layers of berry fruit and toasty spice you’d expect from pure Tempranillo — aged in expensive oak barrels for 30 months, plus 10 years of bottle age. And it still has several years ahead of it.

Extremely limited cases. Prompt orders recommended.

Beautifully Aged Spanish RedsWith a combined 112 years of age, these mellow gems are ready to drink

Hands down, our ‘Mature Spain’ collections are some of our biggest sellers. These barrel-aged finds really are the country’s great specialty, requiring painstaking care from the vineyard to the winery. You’ll taste that dedication to quality with every bottle in today’s case.

Let’s start with the Reservas. You have two from 2006: Xavier Domecq’s old-vine Tempranillo is filled with spicy raspberry and Pamela Geddes’ silky take is laced with vanilla and strawberry flavor. Javier Murúa’s boutique Rioja comes courtesy of officially “very good” 2007.

Next up: the Gran Reservas. This is the granddaddy of Spanish reds — and you’re in for a real treat. Not only do you have an 11-year-old, gold-medal Cab/Garnacha and a smooth 2005 from one of the county’s oldest cellars, but you’ll also enjoy two bottles of Selección Especial Numerada 2001 — the Rioja featured on the left page.

Very few cases — get in quickly and order now.

A David to the Goliaths of the Australian industry, Sister’s Run makes tiny-production, hugely acclaimed wines from family-owned vineyards in Barossa. Their 2011 Bethlehem Block Cab already sports three gold medals (including a coveted Blue Gold and Top 100 spot at the Sydney International Wine Competition).

“Anexceptionallygiftedwinemaker”

That’s Australia’s top critic James Halliday on Elena Brooks, who grew up helping her parents make wine in Bulgaria before heading Down Under to take her passion to the next level. Her complex, barrel-aged, cassis-laden Cab certainly supports Halliday’s claim that “Sister’sRunisabrandtowatch(andbuy).” Today’s $75 savings seal the deal.

Small Is BeautifulEnjoy four handcrafted releases that over-deliver on quality and value

Elena made 2,385 cases of her Cab (compared to the millions churned out by Yellow Tail each year). We have just a few hundred to share – hurry.

Did you know that over 50% of wine sold in the U.S. is made by just five giant companies? With the sheer volume produced — Yellow Tail just made their billionth bottle — quality is rarely exciting.

Over the next three pages, you’ll meet four of our favorite small-estate specialists — individuals and families for whom making wine is more than just a living. The care they lavish on their limited-production reds shows in every sip. Yet prices remain very modest for the quality.

Top tip: take all four wines in the Artisans Collection on page 10. You’ll save over $60 — but you’ll have to hurry.

Hugues Meffre’s family has been making fine Rhône reds since 1550. You’ll find his Domaine du Vallon in the village of Plan de Dieu, just north of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Same grapes here (Grenache, Syrah, etc.), same heat-trapping galet stones, same heady mix of black-fruit and wild-herb flavors too. Much friendlier price — just $14.17 a bottle for a gloriously rich 2012 (with gold medals at three of the Rhône’s toughest wine shows). Too good to miss.

Drawing on 464 years of family winemaking know-how, Hugues Meffre picks only the ripest, old-vine grapes for his superb Rhône red.

3.Paolo’sQuintessentialChianti

2.Hugues’Triple-GoldChâteauneufRival

Paolo Masi epitomizes the small-scale producer. No website (though his wines win raves from online publications — Wine Spectator rated his Riserva their No. 1 ‘outstanding’ Chianti buy of 2013). He rarely travels (too busy among the barrels). If you visit, his lovely wife Anna Rita will show you around. And because we used to buy from Paolo’s dad, you’re assured a warm welcome — and the best price on Paolo’s succulent, cherry-and-chocolate-packed 2012.

Paolo and Anna Rita’s beautiful estate in Rufina sits directly across the valley from Tuscan powerhouse Frescobaldi.

With Gallo’s recent acquisitions in Washington (and rumors of other big names following suit), it’s down to small estates like Bergevin Lane to fly the flag for handcrafted wines. Established in 2002, this Walla-Walla outfit produces just a few hundred cases each of mostly Bordeaux- and Rhône-style wines. “The Calico wines are always terrific values” (The Wine Advocate) and

this 2009 is no exception: a blend of Cabernet, Syrah, Merlot and Malbec aged 20 months in premium oak. Look forward to tons of ripe, juicy black fruit, with delightful smoky/vanilla notes. Hurry — limited cases.

The best deal and the most enjoyment — all ONLY $14.17 a bottle These limited-production reds provide the perfect antidote to big-brand boredom. Behind each one is someone’s passion and reputation (including ours). We guarantee you’ll be impressed — but you will have to be quick.

Top 5 Best-Selling Grapes

Fruit-Filled CHARDONNAYThese top-estate finds will be lovely on their own — or with grilled chicken, salads and more. Washington icon Charles Smith sends his aptly named, super-crisp (unoaked) ‘Superstar,’ while Sonoma boutique Rodney Strong offers a ripe-fruited, barrel-aged exclusive. You’ll also enjoy a toasty Reserva from Chile’s historic Viña Tarapacá and Didier Brenac’s citrus-laced, southern French beauty.

Mouthwatering PINOT GRIGIOCrisp, refreshing and dangerously drinkable, Pinot Grigio is an ideal summer white. Stop in northern Italy’s mountain-ringed vineyards for two classics: the Zonin family’s single-estate Ca’ Vescovo and Giuseppe Secchi’s Il Pinot. El Grigio hails from high up in Argentina’s Andes and has extra-intense lemon and peach notes. And we think you’ll flip for the pure, green-apple flavors in Acorbat’s Oregon Pinot Gris.

World-Class MERLOTMerlot is another great choice for summer entertaining — and these standouts are all packed with silky, plummy goodness. Kick off with a sunshine-in-your-glass favorite from southern France (that won silver at Concours de Vin 2013), a super-rich Puglian charmer and Oscar Salas’ pure-fruited Chilean classic. A Legend’s 2010 Saint-Emilion Start with the man: Christian Moueix spent 38 years at the helm of Château Pétrus (perhaps the most sought-after Bordeaux of all). Then there’s the vintage: one of the all-time greats. Saint-Emilion excelled, allowing Christian to craft an opulent Private Reserve that demands a place in any serious cellar. J-P Moueix Private Reserve 2010, St-Emilion

91-Point Chianti Classico Riserva For many, Franco Bernabei, ‘Mr. Sangiovese,’ is Tuscany’s greatest winemaker. Here’s the rich, barrel-aged Chianti Classico Riserva he makes at the historic Tenuta Lornano estate. Awarded 91 Points from top guide Gilbert & Gaillard: “Brilliant hue … perfume of prune, tobacco and roasted coffee … dense structure … focused finish.” Le Macchie Riserva 2009, Chianti Classico

Ribera del Duero Exclusive Ribera is home to Spain’s priciest red, the iconic Vega Sicilia. This exciting new find hails from “leading challenger” (Oxford Companion to Wine) Cillar de Silos, a pioneering estate run by the quality-obsessed Aragón family. Enjoy their violet-scented, smooth and plummy Tempranillo with garlicky lamb. Curato de Silos 2013, Ribera del Duero

Champagne History in the Making

For 21 years, Virginie Taittinger worked side-by-side with her father at the family’s legendary Champagne house, whose top cuvées fetch $100s and have been described as “devastatingly beautiful” (The Wine Advocate). So, it’s a real coup to have the debut release from her hotly anticipated new venture.

As you’d expect, it’s very, very good. A blend of two thirds Pinot Noir, one third Chardonnay; made with 85% Grand Cru fruit; cellar-aged for over three years and delicious right now. Look for notes of candied fruit, a lovely fresh streak and that magic stream of fine bubbles (the mark of top-quality Champagne).

Tiny amounts made, very attractive price — order now and save for special summer guests.

Top-Vintage Douro Courtesy of José Maria Soares, who spent 27 years making Barca Velha, “Portugal’s seminal cult wine” (Parker). Duorum is his latest project, way up high in the Douro Valley. Hand-harvested, aged 12 months in fine oak, this is a complex, classy, blackberry-charged red from the finest Douro vintage in years. Altitude by Duorum 2011, Douro

Centered on berry-charged Grenache, peppery Syrah and dark, floral Mourvèdre, the southern Rhône’s hedonistic reds offer terrific value — and these are a podium step above the rest.

Start with the most celebrated red of them all, Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Domaine les Escondudes, the ‘hidden’ estate next door to $60-a-bottle Vieux Télégraphe, sends their enticing 2011. Thierry Ferlay’s highly anticipated Le Prince 2012 is brimming with heady blackberry and tobacco.

Excellent vintages and best-selling stars

Hot on Châteauneuf’s heels are the sought-after ‘village’ wines (super-smart buys). Audrey Francon’s gem reveals the opulent richness of 97 Parker-Point 2010. Your triple-gold Plan de Dieu is a superb taste of 2012, a year that’s drawing comparisons to 94-Point (WS) 2009. Also enjoy a classic Côtes-du-Rhône duo: the double-gold ‘little brother’ to your Le Prince Châteauneuf, and Yves Aubert’s silky Domaine du Mistral.
