Hi Lucia,
Your dad’s job sounds interesting. I don’t
know any chefs. My mum is a shop assistant
and my dad is a postman. He gets up at four, so
I never see him in the mornings because I get
up at seven. He spends four hours in the office
before he starts delivering letters and parcels
at half past eight.
It takes him five hours to deliver everything, and
it’s nice because he’s at home when I get back
from school. We play computer games for a few
hours and then Dad cooks dinner while I do my
homework. We eat dinner with my mum, but
my sister Laura works at a restaurant in the
evenings and she gets home at 11:30. What does
your sister do?
Write back,
Ben

The Cyclops were a group of mythical Greek giants and they

for the Greek gods. People say that when smoke comes from
Mount Etna, it is the Cyclops making new weapons.
There are many stories about dragons from all over the
world. One story, from Russia, is about Zmey Gorynych.
Zmey Gorynych had a body like a huge snake with four legs
and big wings. It had three heads and could breathe fire
from its mouths. Dragons in European stories could usually
breathe fire and they were dangerous and evil beasts.
However, in China, dragons are a symbol of good luck.
Unicorns were mythical creatures that were like white
horses. They had homes in forests and were difficult to find.
They had thick white manes and long white tails. They had
a single horn growing from their heads and this could heal
wounds. In the past, people could buy ‘unicorn horns’, but
these were actually the tusks from a type of whale.

Elizabeth Tudor was born in the 16th century.
She was the daughter of King Henry VIII of
England and she ruled the English people for 45
years. She wasn’t a warrior, but the people
believed she was brave and strong, especially
after her ships stopped the Spanish invading
England in 1588.

1. What did they do together?
Hi Bartek,
Disneyland sounds fantastic! Last weekend, I visited Alton
Towers theme park with my parents. My little sister, Abigail,
stayed with my grandma because she’s only three years old, but
my brother Michael came with us. He’s seven, so my mum took
him on the children’s rides, like the merry-go-rounds, while my
dad and I went on the big roller coasters. They were amazing!
We all met up at lunchtime and visited Mutiny Bay together. There
was a pirate ship there, some water rides and an aquarium – Michael
loved it! After that, we had lunch. At home, we usually have
sandwiches, but today was a special day so we ordered burgers. Dad
said it was too cold to eat ice cream, though!
In the afternoon, we went to the haunted house. Mum said Michael
couldn’t go in, but he was so sad that Dad let him. He was really
frightened! I was a bit bored, though – I didn’t think it was very scary!
We had a really nice day. I want to go again soon.
Write back,
Alexa

Hi Adam,
We’re on holiday in Jordan, a country in the Middle East.
We’re staying in a hotel next to the Dead Sea. It’s really
hot here. Yesterday the temperature was 40°C!
The Dead Sea isn’t really a sea at all – it’s a huge lake. It’s
the lowest place on Earth – 423 metres below sea level!
The water in the Dead Sea is special. It has got so much
salt in it that no plants or animals can live in it. It’s much
saltier than the sea so you definitely can’t drink it! The
water is very good for your skin, though, so lots of
people go swimming in it. I’m going swimming this
afternoon.
What are you doing for your summer holiday?
Write back,
