Enjoy an uplifting comedy-drama about romance and second chances. Childhood sweethearts Alan (Derek Jacobi) and Celia (Anne Reid), both widowed and in their 70s, fall for each other all over again when they are reunited after nearly 60 years. The celebratory tale of the power of love at any age is also a story about family — a family with baggage. Alan and Celia’s daughters, whose dysfunctional lives bring drama at every turn, would never dream of getting in the way of their parents’ happi-ness. But somehow they just can’t help themselves.

Episode 1 (Sept. 8) -- Celia and Alan, childhood sweethearts reunited after 60 years, are stranded when Alan’s car is stolen. They phone their respective daugh-ters, arrogant Caroline and happy-go-lucky Gillian, to pick them up. Seconds before they actually meet, the women argue bitterly over a parking space. Celia and Alan introduce them to one another and make a surpris-ing announcement.

Episode 2 (Sept. 15) -- Celia and Alan are enjoying their new life together, but widowed Gillian and separat-ed Caroline have problems with their respective children

and partners. During Celia and Alan’s engagement party, Gillian’s son is arrested for assaulting his mother’s young lover.

Episode 3 (Sept. 22) -- Celia and Alan decide on a civil marriage ceremony to be held at an eerie medieval hall near Halifax. As they visit, a storm is brewing, the lights go out and they’re locked in the ancient building. In the midst of a thunderstorm, Gillian’s Land Rover inexplica-bly catches fire.

Episode 4 (Sept. 29) -- A police search begins for Alan and Celia, who are locked inside the hall without phone service. Fearing for their parents and unable to sleep, Caroline and Gillian open up to one another and form a supportive bond. In the morning, the curator and his assistant find Alan and Celia.

Episode 5 (Oct. 6) -- Caroline throws herself whole-heartedly into her relationship with Kate. Alan and Celia have lunch in the pub with Harry and Maurice. Alan can’t decide which of them should be his best man, so he ends up asking them both!

Episode 6 (Oct. 13) -- Celia reacts badly to John’s revelation that Caroline is gay. When she and Alan have dinner with Caroline and Kate, she’s very rude to Kate. Alan feels crushed after this, and tells Gillian that it’s over between him and Celia. The next day Alan has a heart attack.

Alan and Celia sit by the fireside in a café, waiting for their families

Experience an awe-inspiring journey of earth’s natural wonders, as never seen before, through the eyes of birds

What would it be like to see the world from a bird’s perspective? To experience riding on the backs of bald eagles and snow geese or flying alongside a flock of brown pelicans as they scan and dive for fish in the ocean below. State-of-the-art technology and sophisticated camera techniques have now made it possible to do just that and more as Earthflight, A Nature Spe-cial Presentation takes viewers on a breathtaking aerial adventure over six continents.

Witness some of the world’s greatest wildlife spectacles, struggles, migrations, and stun-ning landscapes from a bird’s-eye view when Earthflight airs on five consecutive Wednesdays, September 11, 18, 25, October 2, and 9 at 8 p.m. on WV PBS. After the broadcast, each episode will be available for online streaming at pbs.org/nature.

North America (available online after Sept. 4 due to pledge programming) -- Snow geese, pelicans, and bald eagles fly over the Great Plains, the Grand Canyon, Alaska, New York City and the Golden Gate Bridge as they encounter and engage with bears, dolphins, bison, and spawning fish.

Africa (Sept. 11) -- Fly and arrow-dive with cape gannets among sharks, dolphins, whales and the great sardine run. Soar with fish eagles, flamingos, kelp gulls and vultures to see the most animal-packed continent with fresh eyes.

Europe (Sept. 18) -- Cranes and geese rise over Venice, Dover, Edinburgh and the monkey-guarded Rock of Gibraltar. In Rome, the Loire Valley, Holland and Hungary, birds gather by the millions to breed and two by two to raise their families.

South America (Sept. 25) -- Condors and scarlet macaws take us to the Andes and the Amazon. Giant petrels in Patagonia shadow killer whales. Hummingbirds feed at Iguazu Falls, vultures ride the thermals over Rio de Janeiro, and black vultures target turtle eggs in Costa Rica.

Asia and Australia (Oct. 2) -- Japanese cranes dance in the snow, swallows and swifts visit the Great Wall and the Forbidden City, lorikeets, cockatoos and budgies form giant flocks in Australia, pigeons guide us through India, and geese fly miles above the Himalayas.

Flying High (Oct. 9) -- A behind-the-scenes look at how Earthflight was made, including the extraordinary relationships between people and birds. Microlights, paragliders, drones, and camera-carrying birds and much more helped along the way.

Take to the skies in this mini-series Wednesdays at 8 p.m. beginning Sept. 11 on WV PBSEarthflight, A Nature Special Presentation
