WARWICK TEAM MINISTRY Weekly Weekly Newsletter Newsletter WELCOME TO OUR SERVICES. If you are a newcomer to St Mary’s Church, or a visitor to the area, please introduce yourself to one of the sidespeople or the clergy. We hope that you enjoy worshipping with us. Communicant members of any Christian church are welcome to make their communion with us. If you do not wish to receive communion, but would like to receive God’s blessing, simply hold this service booklet when you come to the altar rail. If you would like a kneeler please ask a sidesperson. St Mary’s seeks to be an inclusive church and welcoming to people of all ages and backgrounds. We have a carpeted area and pew bags available for the youngest members of our congregation, if they wish to use it. And they may like to take an adult with them! If you are a wheelchair user please speak to one of our sidespeople and they will happily move chairs to open up a space for you in the Nave. If you’re a UK tax payer the money you place in the collection can be increased by around 25% if you fill out one of the blue or brown envelopes in the Nave chairs or by the main entrance. This allows us to retrieve the tax you’ve already paid and put it towards the work of St Mary’s. NOTICESNOTICESTHIS SUNDAY IS A FIRST SUNDAY …… so we shall have our usual changes with a 9.30am Family Service and 11am Choral Matins. Our Family Service will be the termly, informal Eucharist. Matins will be part of the Warwick Words History Festival Service when our guest preacher will be The Very Revd David Brindley, former Vicar of St Mary’s and recently-retired Dean of Portsmouth. It will be lovely to welcome him and Gill back to Warwick. And there is a Choral Eucharist in the evening at

5.30pm.

LAST SUNDAY WAS HARVEST!Thank you to everyone who contributed to last Sunday’s Harvest Festival celebrations, including the wonderful music, fantastic decorations and the impressive collection of tinned/packet food and other essentials for our local foodbank. And thanks as well to our wardens Gail Guest and John Luxton and team for all the hard work that went into our fun harvest lunch.

OUTWARD GIVING SUNDAY - 13th OCTOBERJohn 9.1-5 tells how Jesus restored a man's sight, and broke the stigma of a man’s disability by proclaiming that blindness is not caused by sin. In doing so, Jesus enabled him to realise his full potential by removing one of the barriers that was preventing him from contributing in his community. Inspired by Jesus's example, Christian Blind Mission works in some of the world's poorest countries to save the sight of people who have avoidable blindness, improve health and help people with disabilities go to school, earn a living and play active roles in their communities. On Sunday 13th October, we will be praying for CBM and the 30 million children and adults it helps annually. Please consider contributing to our Outward Giving Sunday collection that day, so St Mary's can also offer CBM some financial support for their life-changing work. (Find out more about CBM at www.cbmuk.org.uk)FRIENDS OF CATHEDRAL MUSICThe Choir has been most fortunate to be awarded a grant of £20,000 by the Friends of Cathedral Music, in support of our Organ Scholarship. The grant is a recognition of the work and reputation of the music at St Mary’s. More information on the work of FCM can be found online at www.fcm.org.ukPARISH PIXELS - DO YOU LIKE TAKING PHOTOGRAPHS?Could you help St Mary’s win £5,000? Our church insurance company

has a competition asking photographers to capture the essence of their church in a single snapshot. Churches will need to submit a single photograph and a one-sentence caption to accompany

it, to show what makes the church so special. The image can be of

people, places, features, artefacts or anything that highlights the uniqueness of the church or its importance to its local community. Please send potential winners to the parish office [email protected] - final entries to be received by Ecclesiastical by 31st Oct Find out more at www.ecclesiastical.com/parishpixelsCHRISTMAS IS COMING … Yes, Christmas will soon be here, as will the Victorian Evening (28th November). The Bottle stall could have tripled its income last year but we did not have enough bottles. Please start donating bottles NOW. They can be given to the Churchwardens, the Office, and the Shop and can be anything in a bottle (please check best before date). A bottle a week from everyone would be fantastic (buy-one-get-one-free deals are available, of course) and also bottle bags will be gratefully received. Thank you. Denise, on behalf of St Marys Church.FORTHCOMING ORGAN RECITAL ….To avoid clashes with half-term holidays and the Warwick Mop, we’re putting the lunchtime recital series on pause, to resume on Friday 8th November with a recital by John Wyatt.  Having held various church positions, John is now a freelance organist based in Ely, and will be bringing a programme including Guilmant’s grand Sonata No. 1 together with lighter fayre by Bach, Coates, Yon and Ximénez.  The recital is from 1.15-2.00pm and admission is free with a retiring collection.

CHOIR TOURWitamy w Polsce! (Welcome to Poland!) The boys, girls, and back row of our Choir are going to Poland in August 2020, but they need your help. Tours are a hugely important part of our Choir life: a tour enables us to act as ambassadors for Warwick and further afield; it improves the singing of the choir as a unit - one ‘tour’ day is equal to almost two weeks of our normal singing routine; it is an invaluable, positive, team-bonding experience; it enhances the cultural education of the choristers. We hope that every chorister has the opportunity to participate in at least one international tour during his or her time in the Choir. Please donate whatever you can to support our musical ministry, via our JustGiving fundraising page: www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/warwickpolandtour. Please speak to our Director of Music, Oliver Hancock, for more details.
