Research Project
Starter
• Name one of the search engines that searches across other search engines– Dogpile– Webcrawler– Zuula
Module Outcome
• Pupils will produce a Who Wants to be a Millionaire quiz
or • Newspaper reports and diary entries
• These final outcomes will demonstrate your research and learning about WWII
Skills we are going to cover
• Structuring a research task – how to plan the research task
• Skimming/scanning, taking notes, recording sources• How to find information in a book (including
encyclopaedia) – use of index, contents page, title, front cover etc.
• How to search the internet, and assess websites• How to use online databases/encyclopaedia – include
WBO• How to write/create a bibliography

• We have had the chance to:– Choose a topic that interested us– Research/find out more about that topic using
books and the internet– Made notes, highlighted, copied, summarised– Recorded/listed the resources we used in a
bibliography

Writing diary entries: what to include
• How are diaries written? What do they include?
• Example diary entry here
Plan your work
• What is going to happen in each of my diary entries? What events am I going to mention?
• The research you have done will help you to refer to key events, feelings, descriptions etc.
• Spend 10 minutes
Begin writing your diary
• Deadline: Finish your diary entries by the end of next lesson
• How to make your diary entry work: mark criteria– Uses relevant form for a diary– Believable authorial character/voice
– Reference to real events– Descriptions of real events, places/locations– Represents authors feelings/reactions to events
Writing your quiz: what to include
• Use the facts you have learnt from your research to create your quiz questions
• For example: In what year did the Second World War begin?– 1908; 1914; 1938; 1942
• Your questions should get more difficult• Start with general questions about WWII,
before more specific questions about your topic
Deadline: Quiz
• You must finish your final piece of work by the end of next lesson
• Final lesson: We will get into teams and do each other’s quizzes
