Notes from the Meeting held on September 22, 2014 President’s Report: We regret to inform you that John Banks, one of the founders of the Friends of the Meriden Public Library, a past president, and a long-time supporter of the Friends, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. John spent his whole career in catering and the management of hotels and resorts and was a tremendous help to the Friends in organizing and running programs for the Friends especially during the early years when we were first trying to build up our membership. He was also a great help more recently, after his retirement, working in the book store. Any Friends wishing to make a donation in his name is asked to send it to June Vandal, President of the Friends of the Meriden Public Library, at 105 Miller St. Meriden , CT 06450. Book Store: The next book sale will be held on Oct 20 – 25 in the book store. It will be a $5/bag sale open from 10 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday and 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday. Anyone wishing to help out on this sale is asked to call the book store at 203 639-1505 and leave your name and telephone number. Membership: We continue to need volunteers to help out on all our activities especially during the holiday season which is rapidly coming up. We are delighted to welcome the latest volunteer, Marge Anderson, on to our team. If you’d like to help on Internet sales, book store sales or book sorting and shelving, let us know. Library Director: Karen asked for support for passes to two more activities, the Children’s Museum/Roaring Brook Nature Center in West Hartford and Sturbridge Village. The Friends approved.
