The black footed ferret has a yellowish brown body with a zorro like black mask across the face. They also have black feet. They have a black tail tip. They weigh about 1.5 to 2.5 pounds (48 to 66 cm). Males are slightly larger than females.

Habits

• The Black Footed Ferrets prey is a prairie dog but sometimes they eat small street squirrels and mice. They eat, sleep, and raise their young in their burrow.

Reproduction The black footed ferret lives to about 3 to 4

years in the wild and 8 to 9 years in capacity. The babies do not leave their burrow until they are about 6 weeks old.

• Prairie dogs are their prey. Black Footed Ferrets are endangered . Along time ago Black Footed Ferrets got killed from the poison from the grass that people sprayed to kill the prairie dogs .

• More then 2,200 kits (baby black footed ferrets) have been born since 1991. In just over 20 years the world has gone from 18 black footed ferrets to 700. Ferrets are nocturnal they can sleep up to 20 hours a day. The black footed ferret is also called the black eyed ferret.
