Privacy Info rmatio n The band’s first three singles – ‘Who Needs Lo ve Like T hat ?’, ‘Heavenly Act io n’and ‘Oh L’Amo ur ’ - scraped the UK Top 100, although the latter was later covered in1987 by Do llar and became a massive hit. Success came in 1987 with the release o fthe single ‘So met imes’ which climbed to number two in the UK Singles chart. Thisboosted sales o f their second album, ‘T he Circus’. Both ‘T he Circus’ and the duo ’sfo llow-up album ‘T he Inno cent s’ achieved platinum sales in the UK.

The duo garnered a huge fo llowing, especially among the gay community where theopenly-homosexual and flamboyant Andy Bell was an icon. Bell’s vo ice was o ftencompared with that o f Aliso n Mo yet , Vince Clarke’s previous partner in Yazo o .

In 1988, Erasure released the ‘Crackers Int ernat io nal’ EP. The lead single ‘St o p!’gave the pair even more chart success. The ‘Abba-esque’ EP released in 1992 featuredcover versions o f four Abba songs and gave the band their first number one in the UKSingles chart (be sure to check online for the Halloween-inspired Top o f the Popsperformance o f Take A Chance On Me !). This wasn’t their only fo ray into coverversions, however: 2003’s ‘Ot her Peo ple’s So ngs ’ album contained reworkings o f‘Video Killed T he Radio St ar ’ by T he Buggles and Pet er Gabrie l’s ‘So lsburyHill’.

Erasure are currently in the studio writing and recording a new album. In the meantime,an EP of remixes and a remastered version o f ‘T he Inno cent s’ marking 21 years sinceits release will be available from August 2009.
