We will be hosting virtual Parent Information Sessions on Wednesday March 17, 2021. The English session will be at 6:30pm and the Spanish session will be at 7:00pm. Please plan to join us to receive specific details on our Wy’east Return to School Plan. Here is our current plan for our March 29 Orientation Week: •Monday 3/29 - Wednesday 3/31 - 6th graders only on campus (AM) •Thursday 4/1 - 7th graders only on campus (AM) •Friday 4/2 - 8th graders only on campus (AM) All learners will still participate in Comprehensive Distance Learning in the afternoon during this week. The morning time on campus will likely be two hours on site focused on learning safety practices and classroom protocols. We are working with transportation to determine the exact times. All families who are planning on using the bus for transportation need to complete the bus ridership form for transportation planning. We then plan to return all students to campus the week of Monday April 5. We anticipate approximately 4 hours of time on campus mostly in the morning. Instruction will then move to on-site. We will no longer run Comprehensive Distance Learning. This has been a year where we are constantly adjusting to changes. I have been so impressed with the Wy’east community staying focused on creating the best experience for your child. Bringing students back to campus is another big change. When we work together and follow the practices of staying home when we are sick, wearing masks at all times, handwashing regularly, and social distancing, we can safely return students to Wy’east. Let’s make it a strong finish this quarter strong and a safe return to Wy’east for the final quarter of the 20-21 school year! Sincerely, Sarah Braman-Smith Excellence. Every student. Every day. STATE TESTING We are planning for students at Wy’east to participate in the Oregon statewide assessments (OSAS) that students across Oregon take to measure their academic progress in the core subject areas of English Language Arts, Math, and Science. In addition to these tests, English Language Learners will take a mandatory ELPA test. How Can Parents Help their Kids? It is critical for our students and schools that families and students take these tests seriously and be well prepared. Parents, here are a few tips to help your student do their best on these tests. •Make sure your child is at school on the days they are tested. Students who are absent during testing must later be pulled out of class to take the test. •Make sure your student gets plenty of sleep each night. It can be helpful to set a standard bedtime, so kids get a good night's sleep. •Talk to your child about the importance of doing his/her best and take these tests seriously. •A healthy breakfast is critical for good brain power. Make sure your child eats a good breakfast each morning. If you would like information about what to do to if you want your child to opt out, please stop by the school office. Thank you! Return to School Safety Practices Please talk with your child about the importance of following safety practices to prepare them for the return to Wy’east.

•Before coming to school each day, families should do an at-home screening. If your student is sick or showing symptoms, you should keep them home.

•On the bus and at school, masks must be worn at all times. Each student will be issued one reusable mask from the school district.

•Students will be assigned to a specific entrance/exit point to the school and be screened daily before entering the building.

•Hallways and classrooms are marked to assist as all in maintaining social distancing.

•Hand sanitizing stations are available at each entrance, throughout the hallways, and in every classroom. Please talk with your child about the importance of hand washing regularly.

•All students should plan to bring a backpack with them to school as we will not use lockers this year. Students will keep their materials with them in a backpack.

•Students will be responsible for bringing their iPad to school everyday fully charged. Please make a plan as a family for nightly charging.

•Drinking fountains will not be available. Thanks to the Wy’east PTO, we will have two water filling stations on campus and all learners will be receiving a FREE water bottle upon returning to school. Students are also welcome to bring their own from school.

•All materials brought to school should be clearly labeled with student names.
