THE DUKE OF BURGUNDY (18)104 mins | UK | Dir. Peter StricklandSidse Babett Knudsen, Monica Swinn, Chiara D’Anna

British filmmaker Peter Strickland’s latest projectreconfigures this vintage erotic melodrama intosomething deeper and darker. The film follows the relationship between wealthy amateurlepidopterist (butterfy expert) Cynthia and hernewly hired housekeeper Evelyn. As Cynthia’sdemands begin to betray a sadomasochistic streak, Evelyn submits to her progressivelyextreme humiliations with surprising relish. This is a kinky and dry comic featuring surreal gothiccinematography and an enveloping score.
