Wyland’s Secret Shop

Opening Our Hearts!

Dear Wyland Families, The fourth grade students are organizing a very special community service project by collecting items for the homeless and less fortunate in our area. We will be collecting a variety of items that will be delivered on Christmas morning to a local shelter.

We are collecting TRAVEL SIZE personal care items. Students will decorate and fill bags with these items right before the holiday break. We are asking each grade level to donate different items, so that we have a consistent and wide variety of items for each bag.

Grade Level Items:

Kindergarten: Washcloths and body soap

1st grade: Combs, small brushes and nail care items (emery boards, nail clippers, etc.)

2nd grade: Toothbrushes and toothpaste

3rd grade: Hand sanitizer and hand/body lotion

4th grade: Shampoo and conditioner

5th grade: Tissues, deodorant and gum/candy

*** We would like to have these items by December 14th.

Unfortunately, there are so many people in need this year, but we know that Wyland can help make a difference this holiday season! (Collection boxes will be in the lobby.)

Thank you so much for your help and generosity!

Sincerely, Mrs. Howe, Mrs. Hunter, Mr, Raible, Mrs. Zang and the Wyland Fourth Grade

Wyland Adopt-a-Family Holiday Program

The Parent Teacher Organization will continue the Adopt-a-Family Program this holiday season. In the past years, we have been able to help many families within our school by providing gifts for school-aged children and grocery certificates for families.

If your family has recently been experiencing hard times due to a loss of job/income, illness or any other hardship and you could use some help for the holidays, please feel free to call.

Each request is strictly confidential and Mrs. Burd, our school secretary, is the only person who knows that you are participating in the program. If you would like to be a recipient in this year’s program, please contact Mrs. Burd at 412-492-6345. She will assign you a family code and ask for your school-aged children’s wish lists. The PTO takes over from that point.

Please respond with a “Wish List” from your school-aged children, if you would like to benefit from this program. We would like to fulfill each family’s request by a December 20th pick-up date.

Thank you!

ADOPT-A-FAMILY HOLIDAY PROGRAM

The PTO at Wyland Elementary will again be coordinating the Adopt-a-Family Program this holiday season. If you would like to PROVIDE a gift for a child, or a Giant Eagle gift card for a Wyland family in need, please contact Beth Casey at [email protected] or text/call 412-260-2308, by December 3rd.

To buy a gift for a child: You will receive a specific request from a child along with the child’s gender, age and family code. In the past, our gifts have ranged from $20 - $25. Please return the wrapped gift to the school office by December 14th. The outside of the wrapped gift should include a removable sticker or post-it note with the Family code, child’s gender and child’s age.

To buy groceries: We ask that you purchase a Giant Eagle gift card in the amount of $20-$25, and return it to the office by December 14th.

Wyland families, teachers and staff have always been very generous making the holidays more special for everyone involved. If you would like to participate in the spirit of giving this year, it will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you and best wishes for a beautiful, happy and healthy holiday season!
