This document describes the DocuColor 242/252/260 Digital Color Printer / Copier. The Print capability for the DocuColor 242/252/260 is enabled by Electronics for Imaging (EFI) Fiery Network Controller. The dimensions listed below provide the overall service space required, including the space to the nearest obstruction. The dimensions reflect both typical and hallway installations and are absolute minimums. The service area (including device dimensions) from front to back is always 102”.

Installation Notes: A minimum of 24 inches (609.6 mm) should be maintained between the back of the machine (not the bustled controller) and wall. Installation of the Oversize High Capacity Feeder results in a stationary system installation.

Receptacle Diagram – The DocuColor 260 requires the use of a 15-ampere, 2 pole 3-wire grounding outlet. This is not standard in most modern office buildings and may require professional installation. Consult the diagram (right side) to help in determining the proper outlet. Installation by a qualified electrician is recommended.

Ground Fault Protection is provided which meets Xerox internal safety requirements and exceeds the Industry Standards for Information Technology Equipment.

A single power cord (see above) is required for the DocuColor 260 Copier / Printer and Digital Copier. If the Convenience Stapler option is required, an additional 120v 15 Amp power source is required. If the Oversize High Capacity Feeder is installed, an additional 120v 15 Amp power source is required.

Installation Considerations

• Physical delivery of DocuColor 242/252/260 will be by a Xerox authorized “D/R” carrier. The carrier will install and perform a functional check of the printer/copier unit. The carrier will review the software/documentation with the customer. For the printer / copier the

• The unit weighs 583 lbs. (265 kgs.) - Printer, Scanner, DADF and the Fiery Network Controller. The Digital Copier (i.e. without Fiery Network Controller) weighs 570 lbs. (259 kgs.). The Light Production Finisher with booklet maker, interposer and folder is 392 lbs. (178 kgs).

Energy Star Energy Star is a government-backed program helping businesses and individuals protect the environment through superior energy efficiency. The DocuColor 242 / 252 / 260 copier / printer is Energy Star certified. This means that the machine has been tested and meets Energy Start criteria. The DocuColor 242 / 252 / 260 automatically switches to a Low Power mode after an idle period. After an additional idle period, the machine switches to sleep mode, saving additional power. The customer can adjust the “Time to Low Power mode” and the “Time to Sleep Mode” as described in the Interactive User Guide.

The product will be delivered with an initial supply of Toner as well as the CRUs (Drum Cartridges, Charge Corotron, Fuser, and Waste Toner Container as well as Staples – included for finishing options with stapling).

Copy / Print Speed - System Performance • The maximum print/copy speed for the system is limited by the

process speed of the DocuColor 242/252/260 engine.

• As a printer / copier, the DocuColor 242/252/260 is a document printer; therefore, in reverse order (face-up) printing the print engine will not cycle up until the entire job is ready. This will impact First Copy Out Time (FCOT). The printer may cycle down between each job depending on job complexity.

• When printing, overall system performance (‘Click to Clunk’ time) is primarily dependent upon the software applications and network environment being used. Rasterizing (RIP-ing) is only a small fraction of Click to Clunk time.

• The Digital Copier enables accurate billing of black and white and color copied pages.

Scanning Specifications – DocuColor 242/252/260 Printer/Copier only The DocuColor 242/252/260 with the Fiery Network Controller supports a Fiery Scan scanning functionality. Applications that support a TWAIN interface can utilize this feature (i.e. PhotoShop, TextBridge, etc.). Fiery WebScan (part of Fiery web Tools) can also be used to retrieve images scanned to the DocuColor 242/252/260. Note: Several scan resolution settings are selectable via DocuColor 242 / 252 / 260 User Interface touch panel. Lower resolutions will result in files that are smaller in size and thereby reducing the customer's network traffic.

Print Quality & Color Management

• The appearance of the document displayed on the monitor screen may not match the output print because the monitor uses RGB color space parameters.

• For imported RGB images, optimal color is achieved in the EPS format. Other imported file formats may produce unexpected results.

• The customer is responsible for calibrating the DocuColor 242/252/260.

Volume Range / Position / Performance

The DocuColor 242/252/260 is designed to produce a consistent uniform looking color image. The DocuColor 242/252/260 is designed to operate in the range of 15,000 – 50,000 copies or prints per month. The number of copies or prints between service calls on a digital color copier / printer is highly dependent on customer expectations of quality and the use of applications and throughput materials. At an average usage of 21,000 copies or prints per month, it is expected that service will be required about once every 7 weeks. Recommended Materials List Customers may obtain a copy of the Xerox Recommended Materials List for the DocuColor 242/252/260 by going to Xerox.com and perform a search on the letters “RML”.

The DocuColor 242 / 252 / 260 can run a maximum paper weight of 300gsm / 110 lb. Cover. Speed through the printer / copier is dependent upon paper size and weight and is reflected in the table below. Image Quality

• DocuColor 242/252/260 is designed to produce a uniform image. However, Color Image Quality is subjective and can be impacted by lighting, and is strongly influenced by paper (consult the Recommended Materials List).

• Printing registration specifications are ±1.5 mm along the lead edge for all paper trays. Side edge registration is ±1.7 mm for Trays 1 – 4 and ±2.9 mm for the Bypass Tray (Tray #5).

• Skew registration is ±1.5 mm along 200mm of the side edge in all trays for an 8.5x11” / A4 LEF sheet of 24lb. (90 gsm) media.

The DocuColor 242 / 252 / 260 employs a very wide media latitude. Feeding heavyweight stocks will result in a higher than normal amount of paper curl. The resulting paper curl can provide difficulties if precision cutting of the printed sheets is required.

Maximum Image Sizes

The DocuColor 242/252/260 will reproduce 11”x17” full bleed when printing on 12x18” or 13”x19” paper and A3 full bleed when printing on SRA3 paper. The maximum length images (476.6mm) are only produced on media 19” long. On all media there is a Lead Edge deletion of 4mm and a Trail Edge deletion of 4mm. Side edge deletion is 3mm except for 13x19” media. On 13x19” media the side deletion is 3.5mm.

Document Feeder

The Duplexing Automatic Document Feeder (DADF) will handle originals from 5.5 x 8.5” to 11 x 17” (or A3) in size, and from 16 to 28lb Bond in weight. The DADF has a maximum capacity of 250 sheets (based on 24lb Paper). For the DocuColor 242 / 252/ 260 the DADF operates at 40 / 50 / 60 ppm color (8.5” x 11” / A4 LEF) and 55 / 65 / 75 ppm black and white (8.5” x 11” / A4 LEF) in copy mode. The DADF operates at 40 / 50 / 50 ipm color and 80 / 80 / 80 ipm black and white (8.5” x 11” / A4 LEF) in network scanning mode.

• Recommended paper to maximize image quality and product reliability is Xerox Color Xpressions Plus 24lb (smooth bright white paper). This paper is specifically designed to maximize image quality and machine performance over a wide range of environmental conditions.

• Using coated (e.g., glossy, matte coated or photo finished / proofing) and/ or extra heavyweight (i.e., >90lb Index / 176 gsm) stock may result in degraded reliability performance for the DocuColor 242 / 252 / 260. Customers using these materials exclusively or extensively will see decreased performance as it relates to image quality and product reliability.

• Attempts to feed heavier than recommended paper stocks, and/or misuse of the media settings, may cause machine damage or poor image quality. Using media at run modes other than that recommended for the grade may cause poor image quality and serious machine damage.

Xerox stock 32lb bond (3R11550) and 60lb cover (3R11553), which were designed for the xerographic process, can be run satisfactorily.

Output Media Capability in the Advanced, Professional and Light Production Finishers:

The DocuColor 242/252/260 can accommodate multiple output options.

The Simple Catch Tray (XE Only) can accommodate up to 500 sheets of 13x19” / SRA3 24 lb. Media. A full tray is not announced by the User Interface.

The Offsetting Catch Tray (OCT) can accommodate up to 500 sheets of 13x19” / SRA3 24 lb. Media. A full tray is announced by the User Interface.

Advanced Finisher

• The Advanced Finisher has two output destinations.

o The Top Tray will handle up to 500 sheets of 8.5”x11” / A4 20lb. paper and can accommodate up to 13x19” / SRA3 24 lb. size media.

o The Stacker Tray can accommodate up to 3000 sheets of 20lb. paper and can accommodate up to 13x19” / SRA3 24 lb. size media.

• Hole punch up to 65lb cover, 176gsm available to top & stacker tray

• Single and dual position stapling of up to 50 sheets of 24lb Bond/90 gsm available to the Stacker tray.

• Offsetting will not be enabled above 220gsm / 80lb Cover.

Professional Finisher

• The Professional Finisher has three output destinations:


o The Stacker Tray can accommodate up to 1500 sheets of up to 13x19” / SRA3 24 lb. Media.

o The Booklet Tray can accommodate up to 20 sets (with tray in “up” position) of up to 15 sheets per set when stapled (set size limited to 5 sheets when not stapled). Booklet stitching available with paper sizes of 8.5”x 11”SEF, 8.5”x13”SEF, 8.5”x14”SEF, 9”x11”SEF, 11”X15”SEF, 11”x17”SEF, 12“x18”SEF, 13”x18”SEF. Booklets of up to 15 sheets of 24lb/90gsm or 14 sheets of 20lb/80gsm plus 1 non-coated cover between 90 – 176 gsm can be created when stapled.

• Right Center Tray output tray will handle up to 1,500 sheets.

• Hole Punch up to 176 gsm available to right top and right center tray.

• Single and dual position stapling of up to 50 sheets of 24lb Bond/90 gsm available to the right center tray.

• V – fold of up to 5 sheets.

• Finisher does not perform edge trimming.

• The misregistration fold of a booklet will be less than or equal to 3mm 95% of the time.

Light Production Finisher

• The Light Production Finisher with C/Z folding has 4 output destinations.


o The Stacker Tray can accommodate up to 1500 sheets of 13x19” / SRA3 24 lb. Media.

o The Booklet Tray can accommodate up to 20 sets (with tray in “up” position) of up to 15 sheets per set when stapled (set size limited to 5 sheets when not stapled). Booklet stitching available with paper sizes of 8.5”x 11”SEF, 8.5”x13”SEF, 8.5”x14”SEF, 9”x11”SEF, 11”X15”SEF, 11”x17”SEF, 12“x18”SEF, 13”x18”SEF. Booklets of up to 15 sheets of 24lb/90gsm or 14 sheets of 20lb/80gsm plus 1 non-coated cover between 90 – 176 gsm can be created when stapled.

o C/Z folding tray can accommodate up to 40 sheets of 24 lb (90 gsm) media). Supported Paper sizes are 8.5x11” (A4).

• Hole Punch up to 176 gsm available to right top and right center tray.

• Single and dual position stapling of up to 70 sheets of 24lb Bond/90 gsm available to the right center tray.

• V – fold of up to 5 sheets.

• Finisher does not perform edge trimming.

• The misregistration fold of a booklet will be less than or equal to 3mm 95% of the time.

• C/Z folding of media up to 24 lb (90 gsm).

• System must be interrupted to remove paper from the C/Z folding tray.

• Used to insert pre-printed stock into finished sets w/o having to go through engine.

• The Light Production Finisher has a standard Interposer unit with the following specs:

o Tray Capacity: 200 sheets of up to 128gsm

o Paper Weights: 64 to 220gsm (HW2), Tab-1, holed paper.

o Labels, coated media & envelopes are not supported

o Supported Sizes: Letter L, Ledger, A3, A4 L, Legal/ 8.5x12.5/ 215x315, B5 S/Exec S, Letter S/ 8x10 S, B5 L/ 8x10 L, Letter Cover L/ A4 Cover L, 11x15, B4 (1 sheet of up to 220gsm (HW2), allowed for booklet cover)

Hole Punching Capability

The Advanced, Professional and Light Production Finishers offer Hole Punch as a standard feature. Hole punching is not available to the Booklet Tray. The maximum hole punch media weight is up to 176gsm / 65 lb. Cover stock.

Duplex (2-sided) Copying / Printing

Automatic duplexing on uncoated media up to 11”x17” (A3) and 176 gsm can be performed from Trays 1 and 2. Trays 3 and 4 can only auto duplex 8.5”x11” LEF and A4 LEF sizes of 176 gsm max. Tray 5 can auto duplex uncoated media up to 13”x19” / SRA3 and 176 gsm. The High Capacity Feeder, HCF can automatically duplex up to 176gsm uncoated letter sized media. The Oversize High Capacity Feeder (OHCF) can automatically duplex up to 13x19, SRA3, 176gsm uncoated media. Manual duplexing can be performed on uncoated media up to 110lb Cover (300gsm) or coated 100lb Cover (280 gsm) from Tray 5 (Bypass). Manual duplex can be performed on media up to 13x19" (SRA3 320mmx450mm / Maximum 320mm x 482mm) from Tray 5 (Bypass). (Note: Image quality degradation is possible above 220gsm.)

As with any printer or copier, duplex performance is not expected to match the performance for single sided copying. Paper jam rates may be higher than the rate you will experience for the same throughput material in single sided mode.

Transparencies

The following premium transparency is available for use: 3R12505. Transparencies are supported out of Trays 1 – Tray 5 (Bypass) if fed in the correct manner. This premium transparency is specifically designed to provide optimum copy quality.

Use of other transparencies may cause machine damage and result in excessive service calls.

The Foreign Interface Kit enables the connection of external devices such as auditrons or coin-op devices. This will perform in copy and print modes.
