Dear Colleagues, Oral Hygienists, Friends,

in a quickly changing world, even Dentistry (and Periodontology, expressly) should be able to listen to population requests and to deal with themes related to appropriateness. Exactly this term (the measure of how a diagnostic or therapeutical procedure or choice is adequate to patients’ need and to the healthcare background) appears in the headline of the next 19

th National Congress of the Italian Society of Periodontology and Implantology, which I am

happy to announce will take place in Turin, March 17-19, 2016, at the outstanding venue of Lingotto. The whole headline of the Congress is:

“Appropriateness of periodontal and implant therapy. How and How much?”

We all know that a diagnostic or therapeutical intervention is appropriate when, in the best possible way, it meets requirements of efficacy, efficiency and safety: in medicine, efficacy is the ability of achieving an intended result, efficiency is the ability to get it with a minimum amount or effort. Safety is by the way the topic under the spotlight of the ongoing Communication Project of our Society. During the Congress, I am personally sure that the invited speakers will be able to give solid answers to our query: How and How Much? We want to share with you our therapeutical proposals and you will be invited to express your opinion through Televoting during the sessions.

These are expected to be three intense days which will begin from Thursday March, 17 with the pre-congress program: Young Dentists Forum, Young Dentists Hands-on Course, Research Forum for Dentists and Research Forum for Oral Hygienists, Updating Course in Basic Surgery, H.M. Goldman Award 2016 (basic research and clinical research), Sponsor Forum in Implantology, Sponsor Forum in Oral Healthcare.

All these sessions will be concluded in time for joining our Perio-Party “All together at Lingotto”, an amusing opportunity for meeting among Dentists, Students and Oral Hygienists and all our commercial Partners: it will mark the official beginning of the Congress and will hold pleasing surprises, starting with excellent food and great wine: it will be our social dinner… Welcome you all!

On Friday 18 and Saturday 19 our Speakers will interact with you via new modalities of communication, such as Televoting sessions and spectacular 3D videos, with the aim to share with you knowledge and useful practical tips for our profession, that is more and more soliciting caution and dedication. For Oral Hygienists we arranged a dedicated session, with a crucial topic for their daily profession along our side:

“Motivational Counselling: support, orientation and motivation”

The subject of the Congress will be also the guiding light for our 2016 Updating Courses: Easy and effective Periodontics, May 13-14 in Bologna and Easy and effective Implantology, October 21-22 in Verona. Periodontal and implant treatment should be made easy and effective by using safe and validated procedures, clearing the field out from confounding illusions. Nowadays Dentistry should count on education and training of clinicians, who can consciously apply suitable procedures and protocols with awareness and skill, since our profession needs competence and diligence to be effective and predictable. This is the challenge that we accept: we believe that being all together, Dentists and Oral Hygienist participating in our meetings, we can be successful.

Can we reach our goals? Can we still keep effective the message of our Society even speaking simply? I do think so. The invited Speakers (several Active SIdP Members among them) are expert, enthusiastic and ready to be part of the Congress. But, most of all, we do need you, to share decisions and appropriate, safe, effective and efficient therapies.

I strongly believe we will enjoy being together, in a nice and conformable context, in a beautiful city that is ready to welcome us all.

We are looking forward to meeting you in Turin, on March 17-19, 2016.

PRE-CONGRESS ACTIVITIES Thursday, March 17th 2016

09.30am-12.30pm YOUNG DENTISTS’ FORUM This Forum, managed by young specialists/experts in Periodontology, both

for under 40 SIdP Members and last year CLMOPD undergraduate students,

has the aim to face the main clinical themes (topics) within a group of young

colleagues, eager to confront themselves and professionally grow all

together. The theme, “Treatment Planning in Causal Therapy”, will be

discussed with a “Problem Solving” interactive method, fulcrum of the

success of Young Dentists Interspace‘s previous editions , in which the main

actors are not the Speakers, but the Young Participants themselves.

The clinical questions of Young Dentists Forum 2016 will be already discussed since the

month of January on the Facebook group “SIdP Giovani”.

RESEARCH FORUM 2016: Reserved to Dentists

Clinicians and Researchers will have the opportunity to present their own data and original research

In the field of Periodontology and Implantology during the National Congress 2016 in the session “Spazio Ricerca-Research Forum”. Both clinical and basic sciences research studies may be presented. Submitted studies will be evaluated for acceptance by an ad hoc Committee composed by the Moderators of the “Spazio Ricerca-Research Forum” and by eminent Academicians and Clinicians. Selected studies will be presented as electronic poster in the session “Spazio Ricerca-Research Forum” which will be held on Thursday 17 March from 9.30am to 12.30pm. The abstract of the presentation will be published in th

“Quintessenza Internazionale & Jomi”. Abstracts will be evaluated according to the following criteria: clinical relevance, English language standard, objectivity, materials and methods and their suitability with respect to the objectives, appropriateness of the conclusions with respect to the results, ethics, scientific value, potential clinical significance and originality of the work. Abstract submission Abstracts should be written in English. Deadline for submission through the website www.sidp.it will be the 08 of February 2016. The standards for preparation and content of the abstracts are accessible on th

the same website. Only on-line submitted abstracts will be accepted. Acceptance will be communicated by e-mail from the SIdP secretary within the 28 of February 2016. th

The presentation will not be accepted if the presenting Author would not be pre-registered in the National Congress within the 05th of March 2016. Failure to pre-register will result in the cancellation of participation in the session. Failure to present the work in the session of the 19th National SIdP Congress will not allow the publication of the abstract in the journal “Quintessenza Internazionale & Jomi”. Presentation and discussion will be in English language. Each Author may present only one poster but co-authorship in other posters presented will not be limited. Previously published or presented abstracts cannot be submitted.

How to reach the Congress venues:

The Lingotto Congress Center and the Dental School are only 10 min from the city centerand Porta Nuova railway station, conveniently connected via subway and public transportations. Lingotto railway station can be reached, by a short walk, through the Olympic catwalk. Road signs from the highways and the local area can direct towards the Lingotto parking lots. The Torino Airport (16km from city center) can be reached in 30min by taxi or bus from the terminal located at Porta Nuova and Porta Susa railway stations or in Corso Vittorio.

Attendance to the 19th National Congress of the Italian Society of Periodontology and Implantology is

open to Dentists and Oral Hygienists. Special conditions have been reserved to international Dentists

and Oral Hygienists Members of their National Periodontal Society.

Foreign Attendees - EFP society Members: The category includes Dentists and Oral Hygienists holding the Academic Title for the practice of the profession and members of their national Periodontal Society.

Registration fees for EFP society Members:

- Graduate Dentists Euro 200 - Oral Hygienists Euro 100

Dentists can participate both in the Pre-congress Activities (March,17) and the National Congress

(March, 18 and 19). Oral Hygienists can participate exclusively in the National Congress (March 18-

19) and in the Research Forum (March, 17).

Official language

The official language of the congress will be Italian.

Certificate of attendance
