Another XOS Basketball Users Conference in Las Vegas is in the books! Each

year XOS Digital likes to revamp the program to keep information fresh for our loyal customers- although we usually don’t have to work too hard to convince them to fly to Vegas.

So as always, XOS basketball experts Blaine Patterson and Matthew Twardzik spent months hard at work to prepare for this year’s conference.

The duo ran through the latest features in XOS Thunder Basketball, XOS Digital’s all-encompassing basketball coaching, teaching and scouting suite. They especially highlighted the upgrade to high definition- a feature used by Kentucky during their run to a national championship.

Then they handed it off to Vance Catlin of the Indiana Pacers to run though XOS Lightning and the capability to distribute video to tablets including the iPad, which the

Pacers staff took full advantage of during the 2011-12 season.

“The conference is beneficial for everyone because it keeps you on the cutting-edge of video scouting technology, which helps improve your team’s efficiency and effectiveness during the season,” said Jaime Vathielil, associate director of basketball operations for University of Miami Men’s Basketball. “It was also a great opportunity to exchange ideas with other users and develop a network of people across the country.”

The group was able to take a tour of the University of Nevada Las Vegas’s (UNLV) new multi-million dollar men’s basketball facility, the Mendenhall Center. XOS Digital played a pivotal role in the project and installed remote cameras that route to the video room for live capture in addition to a permanent XOS Courtside Coach for immediate feedback during practice, a XOS In Touch system for telestration, and a full audiovisual

integration of the locker room and coaches’ offices. Special thanks to Rich Hilliard for guiding the group!

In between the trainings and meetings, XOS made sure the group enjoyed their time in Vegas with a nice mix of relaxing by the pool, dinner at Hard Rock Hotel’s staple, Pink Taco, and of course gambling, if their hearts and wallets so desired.

Customer SpotlightUniversity of Nevada, Las Vegas

For as long as he can remem-ber, Rich Hilliard, director of student-athlete development at

the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), has turned to XOS for his video editing needs. Hilliard began working for UNLV nine seasons ago as a graduate assistant, was quickly promoted to video coordinator. Re-cently, he became the director of student athlete development.

Hilliard recalls UNLV making the transition from XOS Director to XOS Thunder in 2007.

“After switching to Thunder, the difference was night and day,” Hilliard said. “The new functionalities and capabilities are very user-friendly and have helped streamline my entire workflow.”

For Hilliard, one of XOS Thunder’s most valuable assets is the ability to send coaches game film instantaneously by simply accessing the server.

“With XOS, you don’t have to wait for the long process of burning video to a DVD, then passing it

to your coaching staff,” Hilliard said. “For example, when a coach requests a certain edit, it is stored on a central server and easy for them to access and watch.”

In late February, UNLV opened their new state-of-the-art basketball practice facility, the Mendenhall Center. This facility has been fully integrated with XOS equipment including complete editing software, audiovisual installation and integration of digital signage throughout the entire facility.

Hilliard also noted how access to game film plays a key role in player development. He explained that being able to watch game film enables instant learning and allows for improvement on a detailed, individual basis in addition to improving team performance as a whole.

“Having the capability to analyze game film directly after a game allows our coaching staff to get a head start on formulating ways to improve,” Hilliard said.

One crucial resource XOS offers to clients is a dedicated support staff available 24/7. Hilliard recalls a time when an issue occurred at midnight, and despite a three-hour time difference, the tech support team responded instantly and resolved the problem.

He gives much credit to Blaine Patterson, XOS basketball marketing specialist, and Blake Tibbett, XOS regional sales manager, for why the partnership has been so strong and steady for many years.

“I know I can call Blaine at any time and he will answer right away,” he said. “And Blake is always there to help ensure that everything runs smoothly.”

When there are schools looking for a company for their video technology needs, Hilliard always offers his experience with XOS Digital.

“Technology is always evolving and XOS is always looking for ways to improve with it and keep pace.”

Hilliard looks forward to the developments and enhancements XOS will provide as the technology field evolves. XOS is proud to work with UNLV and looks forward to the continuation of a great partnership.

Cleaning Touch Panels and Touch Monitors

The problem: after months and months of use, touch panels can become grimy with

fingerprints. While this won’t do any damage to your touch panels, it’s not aesthetically pleasing and can also spread germs. When cleaning anything electronic, you don’t necessarily want to use water as it does not quickly dry. But you don’t want to use rubbing alcohol either as that could cause damage to the screen.

The solution: you want to use a solution that is 50 percent Isopropyl alcohol and 50 percent water. These solutions can be found at electronic

or computer stores-just make sure to check the label for Isopropyl alcohol, and not another kind.

Hint: you may want to consider pulling the power from the touch panel when wiping it down so you don’t have to worry about activating buttons while cleaning. If you look on the back of the touch panel, you’ll see a “green” cable connector

plugged on the right side of the panel. That’s the power cable. Just make sure to plug the power back in when you’ve finished cleaning it!

They say that cleanliness is next to godliness, and luckily it only takes a few seconds to wipe off those fingerprint smudges from the touchpanels to make them look good as new.
