Introduction
This guide was created for making users able, so they can modify their phone and install their favorite contents
and mods on their phones. There are included many tutorials and guides that were created by me or by other
users on the internet. After reading the guides and become familiar with what they say, you can then do the
following:
-Rooting
-Custom rom installing
-Backup & Restore
-Custom kernel installing
-Problem resolving
-Changing themes and fonts
-Improve speed and stability
-Install custom applications
-Modify system files
-Make able some apps to run correct
-Custom recovery installation
Before you begin, download this file which is needed for the next steps, go to Options->Applications-
>Developing and choose usb debugging. Also, install all the necessary drivers along with pc suite. There are
some drivers for the x8toolbox that require the following installation procedure: Turn off your phone, connect
it to your pc while holding the “back” button and wait for the installation to finish. After that, you are ready
to continue.
Moreover, ensure that you run the latest firmware version, using pc companion or update service that you have
on your computer. It is necessary that you have the latest baseband that ends with 015. (You will find it at
Options->About phone->Baseband version.) If you don’t perform the above then you will probably have
problems executing the commands shown at the next pages.
Continuing reading the pages and executing the guides, means that you agree with the below terms:
I have no responsibility for any damage that may appear on the phone, even total destruction. The steps are
checked by me and hundreds of users globally. If you follow exactly the steps, you have nothing to worry about.
Nothing is irreversible. If you don’t agree with the above terms, close the guide.

Rooting
With root permissions we can execute apps that require administrator privileges and modify various system
aspects. Also, it is the first step that is required before we proceed.
Pros:
-Access to various aspects of the system, custom app installing
Cons:
-If you don’t take care and install malicious apps, they may harm you
Difficulty: *
To begin the process, first, connect the phone to the computer and execute the «x8toolbox» which is inside the
zip file that you have downloaded at page 2.
When it loads, choose 1 (Root) and press Enter.
Then choose 1 if you have android 1.6 or 2 if you have android 2.1. Finally, press enter to begin the process.
When it finishes, close the program and restart the phone if it is not restarted by itself. After restarting, check if
the application “Superuser” exists in the application drawer. If it is, then everything is ok. If it is not, then, re-run
the process.

If for some reason you want to unroot your phone, press 3 “Unroot” and wait for the process to complete.
After rooting, it is recommended that you install Busybox to avoid incompatibilities that may occur with some
applications that require root permissions. Just search for “busybox” on Market, install busybox installer and it
will download the latest busybox.

Recovery
Recovery is a very important tool that offers you many vital operations such as installing packages, creating
backups, performing system restore and much more that you will find about them at the next pages.
Pros:
-Backup creation, restoring backup, installing custom packages, custom roms, debugging and more.
Cons:
-Installing problematic packages may lead to unusable phone (brick)
Difficulty: *
To begin, connect the phone to computer and run the “x8toolbox” which is inside the zip file you have
downloaded from page 2.
When it loads, we choose 2 (Recovery). Then we choose one of the following. 1 (Freexperia recovery) mostly for
older roms, 2 (Clockwork Mod recovery) almost every new rom needs it, 3 (Dual mode recovery) it includes both
Freexperia and CWM recovery. After you make your choice (I recommend dual mode recovery) press Enter.

To boot into recovery mode, power off the phone, power it on and when the “Sony Ericsson” logo appears,
press the “back” button many times to boot into Freexperia Recovery, or press the screen many times to boot
into Clockworkmod Recovery. When you are in recovery mode, to move up, press the increase volume button,
to move down, press the decrease volume button, to make a choice, press the center button (Home) and to
move back, press the “Back” button.

Backup & Restore
Taking backups and restoring a previous backup is a very handy operation. You can take a full backup before
testing a mod or package, and if something goes wrong and the phone is bricked, you can restore your phone
programs, settings and data so it will be repaired and fully operational.
Pros:
-Really handy operation, easy to execute
Cons:
-If you’ve partitioned the SD Card, you have to delete the partitions and leave only one primary to prevent
problems
Difficulty: *
Boot into recovery mode with the way you were taught at page 4. Then, select Backup & Restore.
-Backup:
Choose backup, then press “Yes” and wait for the operation to be completed. That’s it!
-Restore:
Choose restore, then choose the backup that you want to restore and, finally, press “Yes”. Wait for the process
to be completed. All of your data will be overwritten by the data that is present inside the backup.
-Advanced Restore
Choose advanced restore and then select what you want to restore. You are able to e.g. select restore /data to
restore all your personal settings, apps and data without altering any system files. (Useful when changing rom)

Custom Roms
Sony-Ericsson restrained our phone to run Android 2.1. This version is very old and despite the fact that many
incompatibility issues appear with applications, it is also very slow. Installing a newer version will make you see
that you can enjoy more services.
Pros:
-New functions, improved speed, better compatibility, dualtouch
Cons:
-Optical changes, rare stability problems
Difficulty: **
First, go here, and choose the rom you like. Many roms have installation instructions, but here we will see the
general installation process.
CM6= Cyanogen Mod 6 = Android 2.2.x
CM7= Cyanogen Mod 7 = Android 2.3.x
After downloading the rom you wish to install, move the file to the sd card (better to the root directory for easy
access) and boot into recovery mode. Then take a backup first and then do a factory reset (if you don’t backup,
you will lose all of your data). Next, choose install zip from sd card and select the zip you have downloaded.
Press “Yes” and wait for the process to complete. When it is completed, press “reboot now” to restart your
phone.
If you didn’t have many data or if it is easy to start from scratch, better don’t restore and start your phone as if it
was new. If you want your data, choose advanced restore and select /data. Bear in mind that if you upgrade
from an older master android version (e.g. Android 2.1 to 2.3), some incompatibility problems may appear with
your data. If you just upgrade to a minor version (e.g. 2.3 to another 2.3) you can restore your data without
negative effects.

It should be better to remove your sim card during the first boot after upgrade, because the phone will try to
connect to the internet and it may charge you. So, when the phone boots, go to Settings->Wireless & networks-
>Mobile networks->Mobile data (off).
After the first boot, you should charge your phone to 100% (Until it says “Charged” at the lockscreen). Then,
immediately boot into recovery mode and choose Advanced->Wipe Battery Stats. Reboot and you are ready.
Every time you notice a great battery loss or you change a rom, it is good to Wipe Battery Stats with the above
way.

JimdemDroid Tweak Package
Reaching this part, you’ve rooted your phone, installed recovery and installed a custom rom. What if you want
to go further and improve various aspects of your rom? With a simple package that I’ve created, you can have
speed improvements, improved appearance, bigger standby time and much more.
Pros:
-Fast response, bigger standby time, optical appearance Xperia 2011 Series type and more.
Cons:
-Different appearance from stock roms
Difficulty: *
To ease you, just go here and follow the instructions that you will find on the page.
If you are happy with your phone’s appearance, install the Lite version of the tweak so you will have all the
system improvements, without changing the rom’s appearance.
It is an easy way to improve all the aspects of the phone and won’t cause any damage because it is tested
personally by me. If you want to go further you may unlock bootloader and install a custom kernel. These
operations are explained at the next pages.
There is a case that you may regret installing the tweak for some reason. To make the things easy and not
having to install everything from scratch, take a full backup before installing the tweak and, if for some reason,
you regret installing the tweak, just restore the backup and everything will be as it was before!

Bootloader Unlocking
DANGEROUS PROCESS. YOUR PHONE MAY BE BRICKED IF SOMETHING
GOES WRONG. PROCEED WITH YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY
If you’ve completed all the previous steps of the guide and you still aren’t pleased with your phone, then you
may unlock the bootloader. Unlocked bootloader makes possible installing a custom kernel.
Pros: Even more customization of the device
Cons: Dangerous process, may not work with all X8 models
Difficulty: ***
First of all, download the Flashtool v0.2.9.1 and install it. Then, open the folder “flashtool” and open the folder
“drivers”. Open the “ggsetup-2.2.0.10.exe” and install Gordon’s Gate. Finally, reboot the computer.
After that, download the Sony Ericsson PC Companion (if you don’t have it) and install it the RAR file that
contains the S1tool, and the files for unlocking, and unrar it.
Turn off your phone, run “S1tool.exe” and press “IDENTIFY”.
Boot your phone in flash mode (While connecting the phone to the computer, press and hold the “back” button.
When the green led turns on, without the screen turning on, we are in flash mode). Then wait for the following

Custom Kernel installation
DANGEROUS PROCESS. YOUR PHONE MAY BE BRICKED IF SOMETHING
GOES WRONG. PROCEED WITH YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY
After completing the previous step which is bootloader unlocking, you may install any kernel you like. So, when
you find the best kernel for you, you can achieve better performance, less battery consumption, better stability
and more.
Pros: Very big freedom for modding the deviceΜεγάλη ελευθερία επιλογών παραμετροποίησης κινητού
Cons: May cause instabilities, dangerous as it may brick your phone
Difficulty: ***
First of all, download from here the kernel you like.
After that, power off the phone and run the FlashTool that you’ve downloaded from the previous step. Select
Flash and choose the kernel file you’ve just downloaded.
Then, connect the phone, while pressing the back button and wait for the process to complete.

Recovery techniques
After many modding attempts and settings, there may come the sad moment when something will pass you by
and your phone will become not operational. In this section, there are presented various techniques for the
recovery of your phone with the form diagnose-repair.
“My phone stucks at bootanimation when I boot it and won’t move forward”
One of the most common problems.
Causes: Not have performed factory reset after installing newer or older rom than the current, installation of
problematic tuning package.
Solution: Take battery off, put it again and boot into recovery mode. Look here about how to make factory reset
(you will lose your data. SD card data won’t be affected.) or here about how to restore a backup you’ve taken
earlier.
“My phone stucks at “Sony Ericsson” logo, and it won’t enter recovery mode”
Things are starting to get serious. Unfortunately, you will lose all your data (if you don’t have a recent backup).
Your SD card contents won’t be erased.
Causes: Busybox altering, problematic installation of critical packages
Solution: Open Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS) (you will find it here), and follow the on-screen instructions.
When it is connected, press install. It will install the official 2.1 version which means that you must do root,
recovery, roms, tweaks etc. from the beginning.
“My phone is not responding. It won’t open and none of the above methods works”
Things are very bad. Your phone is completely bricked.
Causes: Bad installation of custom kernel, bad bootloader unlocking.
Solution: Unfortunately there is nothing that a home user can do. There are some methods to recover it but
they require some expensive hardware. Contact your reseller or Sony Ericsson to send it for service
(motherboard replace).
