In recent years, under President Xi Jinping, there has been a tightening on society in China in general, which has also affected the church and expat Christian workers. We will look at some of the developments and ramifications of these changes.

• David & Joyce Hilt (LHB): “The Necessity of Effectively Communicating the Story of God” We will explore some of the nuances of our English language before delving into elements of the gospel and an effective means of communicating God’s story from creation to the cross. It will be interactive and an opportunity to embrace a fresh understanding of the gospel.

David & Vivian EricksonChristar, Africa (ret.)

David & Vivian served with Christar for 31 years. They left for Mombasa, Kenya, in 1986 to work on a church planting team among Arab Swahili Muslims. They spent 6 years there and saw a small church meeting start. In 2001 they moved to North Africa to continue their church planting ministry among Muslims. God opened the door to many opportunities for establishing and strengthening the struggling church in that country. David and Vivian have experienced the joys and hardships of missionary service. They understand how hard it is to live in a country where people are resistant to their message, even militant against it. David had carried on much of the heavy responsibility of evangelism and discipleship. Vivian had a growing opportunity to help missionaries remain resilient as they served outside their home cultures. Since 2018, they have been serving people with disabilities and helping others in Delaware.

Anna Anderson GEM, Germany

Anna Anderson grew up at CMBC and remembers attending our Missions Conferences for many years. Now she is serving in Kandern, Germany and has the privilege of working with GEM missionaries all over Europe by providing administrative support to help them be effective in their ministries. Some of the ways GEM missionaries seek to make and multiply disciples are by running kids’ clubs, planting churches, teaching at theological seminaries, creating evangelism and discipleship tools using technology, running cafes or coffee houses, and working with refugees. While most people don’t get excited about spreadsheets and filing and event-planning, these are vital parts of missions and ministry for which God has given Anna a passion.

Andy GordleySCORE, Costa Rica

Andy (who is affectionately known as “Sam”), grew up at CMBC. He spent 12 years in Costa Rica and Panama with his missionary parents Jim & Emily Gordley. After LBC, he was a youth leader here at CMBC for 7 years. Since 2010, Andy and Tina have served in Costa Rica as director of the GAP year and SCORE. The Gap year is a 9-month program for students from North America which trains young people in Spanish, Bible, and hands-on sharing of the Gospel. SCORE does short term missions teams in Costa Rica. They have 6 children.

Glenn & Narci HerrChinaSource, St. Louis

Glenn was an associate pastor here at CMBC years ago. Glenn and Narci came to ChinaSource after 30 years of experience living and serving in Hong Kong and China under Christar. They were involved in working with the church in Hong Kong. During that time Glenn traveled extensively throughout China and Narci taught Hebrew and theological English at a Hong Kong seminary. They are currently located in Saint Louis with ChinaSource, in close walking distance to Washington University (www.wustl.edu). There they work with several ministries seeking to reach international students. 20% of the student body are internationals. China is the largest group with 2,000 students. www.chinasource.org

Jason & Barb Henry Sent to Serve

Jason & Barb are members of CMBC. (Barb grew up in Lancaster.) They were individually sent to M_ as missionaries and met there in 1995. They have been ministering there together for 25 years. They are church planters in a rural town and operate a farming business as a platform for ministry. They have 4 children, the oldest at Word Of Life in Florida.

David & Joyce HiltEthnos360/wayumi, York, PA

Dave and Joyce served 16 years in Papua New Guinea as church planting missionaries. They ministered among a Highlands tribe and a tribe on a small island. Deteriorating health eventually forced them to leave this area. (Joyce was born with poly-cystic kidney disease). Dave and Joyce returned to the mainland of PNG where he assisted in training national believers for ministry, taught Bible classes in a government school and journalism at New Tribe’s school for missionary children. Joyce developed a local ladies outreach ministry through Bible studies and taught music classes at the boarding school. The Hilts’ passion is to see the Lord raise up those who will go to the ends of the earth in planting churches among the nations. Dave and Joyce have one daughter and three grandchildren. They currently reside in York, PA, but will soon be moving to Arizona.

One of these pastors is A_ in the State of O_ in his language O_. CMBC currently supports Pastor A_.
