HOLLY GROVE SENIOR CITIZENS CLUB

The Holly Grove Senior Citizens Club met Wednesday, August 15, 2018 with 16 mem-bers and guests. Our guest speaker was Karina Camp from SHIIP, Senior Health Insurance Information Program which is a Division of the North Carolina Department of Insurance. Karina’s very informative program explained many of the changes coming to Medicare in January, 2019. One of the major changes that will affect us is that the “medi-gap” that applies to our prescription drugs will end on that date. It will be a great savings to many people. We also learned that everyone will be receiving a new Medicare Card by April of 2019. Mrs. Camp also explained the SHIIP program is open to everyone in Davidson County to help navigate the Medicare system. Karina and the other counselors will meet with you individually when you begin to receive Medicare or when you need to make changes. They will explain all the plans available and help you decide which plan will suit your individual needs. You can make an appointment with Mrs. Camp or another counselor at the SHIIP pro-gram through Davidson County Medical Ministries. They will be happy to meet with you at a place and time convenient for both you. Jan Watkins presented a devotional on confidence and self-esteem. We made clarification of what supplies were available for refreshment. You may bring your own paper products, but there are also some available for our use at Mr. Tabor if you need them. Myra Beck presented the treasures report and suggested that we spend some of the mon-ey available on our group. We will give our suggestions at the September meeting. We sang Happy Birthday to Virginia Everhart and Sandra Burcham.

We will meet again September 19th. Minnie Conrad and Carolina Conrad will be our hostesses.

William Curry- graduate of Central Davidson will be attending Greensboro College majoring in accounting and playing soccer. Chloe Gabriel graduate of Central Davidson will be attending East Carolina studying biology. Benjamin Gates graduate of Central Davidson will be attending West-ern Carolina. Aidan Walser graduate of Central Davidson will be attending UNCC majoring in pharmacy.

We give honor to our graduating youth as they further their education!

Jay Proctor graduate of Central Davidson will be attending UNC in honors studying bio-medical engineering.

Sarah Grace Davis- graduate of North Da-vidson will be attending DCCC for paramedic certification.

If you use artificial flower arrangements in the cemetery, please con-sider taping a name to the bottom of the arrangement. We frequently find them blown across the cemetery, near the road, and toward the parking lot, but if we know where it goes, we'll be glad to put it back!

Christmas is just around the corner! The Parish Ed Committee is doing a “casting call” for all children that want to participate in the Christmas program. If you have a friend from school, day care, or extended family that would want to be part of the greatest story ever told, please let one of us know! Sign-up forms are located in the narthex.

Fun Facts about September

September, the ninth month of the year, is one of four months that contain 30 days. September begins on the same day of the week as December, and no other month ends on the same day as September. In Latin, septem means 'seven.' September was the seventh month of the Roman calendar until 46 BC, when the first month of the year was changed from March to January. September starts the academic year in many countries in the Northern Hemisphere, but I know a few states in the US that start in August. American Football starts the collegiate and professional seasons in September. (Go Packers!) Those born in early to mid-September are under the sign of Virgo, and those born in the later part of the month are born under Libra. September's birthstone is the sapphire, and the birth flowers are the forget-me-not, morning glory, and aster. September is also 'Be Kind to Editors and Writers Month.' *Bizarre Holidays: 3rd--Skyscraper Day Labor Day in the US 5th--Choose Pizza Day 6th--Read a Book Day Fight Procrastination Day 7th--Neither Rain or Snow Day (We'll see, won't we?) 9th--Teddy Bear Day Grandparents Day (I'll be celebrating this year!) 10th--Sewing Machine Day Swap Ideas Day 11th--911 Remembrance Day 12th--Chocolate Milkshake Day Video Game Day 13th--Positive Thinking Day 14th--The day Francis Scott Key wrote The Star-Spangled Banner Cream-filled Donut Day 16th-- Collect Rocks Day Step Family Day Women's Friendship Day 18th--Play-doh Day 19th--Talk Like a Pirate Day (Aaargh, Mateys!) 22nd--Hobbit Day Dear Diary Day Elephant Appreciation 23rd--Checkers Day 24th--Festival of Latest Novelties (this sounds like fun!) 25th--Comic Book Day 26th--Pancake Day Good Neighbor Day (Be a good neighbor and make pancakes for the lady next door.) 28th--Ask a Stupid Question Day 30th--Mud Pack Day
