Two exams for English Language – no coursework.

Two exams for English Literature – no coursework.

Long exams – up to 2 hours 15 minutes. We need to: build stamina; resilience; an ability to manage time; and have a keen understanding of the skills being tested for each question.

Questions get progressively more difficult;

AQA aim to ensure it is accessible for all;

Tests reading and writing tasks;

Regular testing. Homework.

English Literature:

Closed-book exams

Shakespeare – Macbeth. Pre-1900 texts – Jekyll & Hyde, Lord of the Flies, A Christmas Carol. Play – An Inspector Calls.

We offer 2 science courses through AQA exam board:

GCSE Combined Science: Trilogy (8464) – 2 GCSE gradesGSCE Triple Sciences: Biology, chemistry and physics – 3 GCSE

grades (11xG, 11yG, 11QTrSc only)

All are 100% examination and graded 9-1

A double grade (eg 5,4) will be awarded based on this combined mark

Triple Science

2 x biology papersEach 100 marks and 1 hour 45mins long

The marks of these 2 papers are combined to give a score out of 200

A GCSE Biology grade will be awarded based on the combined score.

The same is true for physics and chemistry.

Edexcel 1MA1 GCSE Details

A choice of two tiers of entry

Linear Course with 3 papers at the end.

All papers

One test is non calculator and two are calculator.

Each test is out of 80, so 240 in total.

The grade is calculated based on the total marks over both papers.

On Higher last year Grade 7 = 124/240 and Grade 4 = 41

On the Foundation a 4 was 122/240 last year.

What we offer in lessons:

High expectations of pupils effort and behaviour.

All classes taught by specialist maths teachers.

Well structured lessons that teach new content as well as ensuring topics previously taught are revisited.

A real focus on trying to teach the maths that underpins what students are learning so that they can apply this to different situations.

Regular assessments using past papers with follow up analysis of progress, some with notice, some without.

For any home learning to be completed thoroughly.
