• Easter homework revision is crucial to exam success at GCSE

• If you work hard at Easter you’ll make the most of your last regular lessons (about 2.5 weeks) next term and of the special lessons and revision sessions during the exam period

• Share your ‘Easter holiday timetable’ with someone in your family, so they can help you stick to it

• The timetable you did in school shows your revision sessions in school and at home

• Your timetable also shows when you’re having free time and sleeping!

Revision Tips:

Create a revision timetable Ensure you are active in your

revision- create revision posters, flash cards, exam questions.

Complete as many past papers as you can. Use the mark scheme to check and help write perfect answers!

Top Tips• Don’t use a computer or mobile phone etc. to revise before 3pm.

The only exception is for maths as directed by your teacher

• Sit at a proper desk - Don't try to revise in bed — you'll fall asleep and move your mobile away

• Start revising early i.e. 9am — that way you'll get your day's work done much quicker and will have time to take some exercise and relax in the evening

• Find the right environment to revise: NOT in front of the TV; NOT listening to the radio or music. They won’t help you memorise things (Use these things as a BREAK).

Top Tips• Rest and sleep – you need to sleep. You probably need about 9

hours.

• Take short breaks- Every hour, not every 10 minutes.

• Stick revision notes all around your house - So in the exam you think — "aha, quadratic equations, they were on the fridge”. Get snacks or a hot drink in your 10 minute break

Top Tips• Always eating breakfast avoids blood sugar lows later in the morning,

which can make it more difficult to remember things

• Our brain cells are 82% water. Even moderate dehydration causes headaches. Drink more water!

• The optimum time for study block should be 45 - 60 minutes

• Then have a short break of about 10 minutes. Take 30 minutes for a lunchtime break

• Be cautious of revising with a friend. It doesn’t always work

What to do..• What have I been set by my teachers? Do it!

• What have I been told by my teachers? Check it!

• Mock 2 – Look at your Mock 2 papers and teacher advice and try to do your weakest questions again

• Don’t cheat yourself! Really memorise and then do quizzes on SMHW

• For the subjects in which you said ‘I didn’t revise enough for Mock 2 ’ do it this Easter

• Get people to test you out loud

• Make revision cards/stickers/posters – anything

to help you remember.

AssessmentGrade 61. I can explain how a covalent bond forms in terms of

electronic structure.2. I can draw dot and cross diagrams and ball and stick

diagrams for H2, Cl2, O2, N2, HCl, H2O, NH3, and CH4.3. I can describe a double bond in a diatomic molecule

AssessmentGrade 41. I can describe a covalent bond. 2. I can recognise a covalent compound from its formula,

name, or diagram showing bonds.3. I can name familiar examples of small molecules which

contain covalent bonds.

C3 – STRUCTURE AND BONDING 3.5 Covalent bonding

Ionic bonds form between ________ and _____________. Covalent bonds form between _____________. Covalent bonds form when atoms ___________ pairs of _____________. These bonds are very _______________.

Share, Metals, strong, non-metals, electronsYou can use the words more than once

Aiming for Grade 4 Aiming for Grade 6 Aiming for Grade 8

AssessmentGrade 81. I can draw dot and cross diagrams and ball and stick

diagrams for unfamiliar small molecules.2. I can suggest how double and triple covalent bonds

can be formed.3. I can suggest how the properties of a double bond

could be different to the properties of a single covalent bond.

Draw ball and stick and dot and cross diagrams for the following covalent bonds

Three hydrogen atoms and one phosphorus (phosphine)

Carbon dioxide

Ethene (2 carbon with double covalent bond) and four hydrogen

Describe how Hydrogen and Chlorine form a covalent bond to form Hydrochloric acid.

What is a double covalent bond?

Draw dot and cross diagrams and ball and stick diagrams for H2, Cl2, O2, and N2,

Name these small molecules and state their formulae.
