2017 Yankalilla Show
OFFICIAL OPENING
On the Shearing Shed Stage
by Australia’s last gun shearer
John Hutchinson O.A.M.
The 2017 Yankalilla Show is to opened by Australia’s last gun
shearer John Hutchinson O.A.M. Inducted into the Shearers' Hall of Fame, 2002.
In 1999 John was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for his contribution as a shearer trainer and
teacher. In 1969 he won the first of six Australian championships and
demonstrated shearing at the Osaka World Expo. Despite fame as the ‘quiet gun from
South Australia’, and success in competition well into the 1980s, John at 73 years old still promotes awareness & recognition of the
shearing industry. John has been not only a significant supporter of the South Australian Shearing
Industry but also a supporter of our rural community and Agricultural Shows.
John has been demonstrating shearing at the Yankalilla Show for many years providing not only the
opportunity to see sheep professionally shorn but to also provide entertaining commentary on
the shearing process. We are very proud to have John officially open the Yankalilla Show at 12 noon. At
the Shearing shed stage where John will also be doing demonstrations during the day.

Most people these days think that the closer you are to the magic show, the
easier it is to spot the trick. We’re here to tell you that you could have binoculars and you’d still be
bamboozled by our sleight of hand!
Close up magic shows are fantastic for capturing the imagination of intimate crowds. A dash of comedy here and
there also guarantees a few belly laughs.

The Amazing Drumming Monkeys
For over 10 years The Amazing Drumming Monkeys Show has
entertained thousands of children (and adults), at thousands of events around
Australia and abroad. Based in Adelaide (South Australia), the
Monkeys have 2 teams operating full time and therefore can perform at multiple events on any given day.
This is an adorable little variety show aimed at 1 - 8 yr olds, and is also great
entertainment for all ages. The 2 monkey puppets (Bongo & Congo)
play African drums, lead audiences in songs & dances, perform magic tricks and (low tech) special effects gags etc.
The show also features beautiful positive messages, such as caring for our environment, and getting along
with each other.
The Monkeys appeal to a great range of people, places, and events. The
show has cute & funny monkeys for the kids, great drumming for the
adults, variety segments for all ages, and a message for the world. The monkeys have been described as:
“Beating Hi 5 hands down" ****1/2 (Adelaide Advertiser)
“The Next Wiggles" (NT News) “The Next Bananas!" (Triple J)
Famous all over Australia, this show is not to be missed.

Sweet Chilli Sauce
It is easy to make your own tasty Thai-style sauce for serving with meals such as chargrilled chicken. The following makes about 1litre.
1. Trim the stems from 500gm long fresh red chillies. Halve 100 gm of the chillies and place in the bowl of a food processor. Halve and deseed the remaining chilies, then coarsely chop and place in the food processor. Add 3 garlic cloves, peeled, and 250ml (1 cup) of white vinegar. Process until finely chopped.
2. Place the chilli mixture, 500ml (2 cups) extra vinegar and 645gm (3 cups) caster sugar in a large saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring, for 5 minutes, or until the sugar dissolves.
3. Increase heat to high and bring to the boil, Reduce heat to medium and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 35-40 minutes, or until sauce thickens.
4. Pour into sterilised airtight bottles and seal.
A joint SCSA/ CDSA Perpetual Trophy is donated by
Damien Liebelt and Jacquie Francis to an exhibitor who
exhibits in a minimum of 2 shows in each association.
This year’s section is COOKERY. Presentation in 2018 will be at the
