As the Chinese proverb goes:”Tree prefers calm while wind not subside; Son choose filial while parents died.” As we grow up, age also catches up with our parents and they often need our help and support. For example, decocting Chinese herbs is a complex task which people often make mistakes. I would like to design an intelligent electric herbal pot for these sorts of people who are confused about what to do with herbs.

There are a growing number of empty nesters in China. They might be faced with many difficulties in their lives.The development of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is stagnating. And it needs something new to stimulate its progress.

People’s purchasing power is strong enough to afford hi-tech devices. They pay more attention to the quality of lives.Young people are willing to buy these devices for their parents.

The development of intelligent controlling system and electirc heating technology is advanced enough to design new devices for decocting herbs.

An ideal electric herbal pot for the old had better have the following features:

a: It would be safe, laboursaving, and intellignet;

b: It could provide an easier process of decocting herbs;

c: It has a visible and clear controlling system;

d: It could remember users’ common settings;

e: It would help weighing the herbs;

f: It should be operated conveniently especially for the old.

Mrs. Mary is a 60 years old single lady whose child has been studying abroad. She is not good in health. And the doctor suggested her a traditional Chinese medicine treatment.

Tong is a young lady who just got married not long ago. She bears large pressure from her jobs. And her doctor suggests her to take some traditional Chinese medicine to nurse her health.

Tong came home after finishing her job. She felt tired and took out some herbs to prepare a herbal treatment to release her stress. She used the electric heating pot to do that. heating pot to do that. However, she had little knowledge about how to

decoct herbs well. And the shape of her pot looked quite old-fashioned. She hoped this process could be easier just like she used her mobile phone.

According to investigations, interviews and researches,we define the target people with the following characteristics:

a. Old people who care about regimen.b. Single ladies who have to b. Single ladies who have to stand on their own feet. c. Old couples often need to decoct herbs for treatment.d. Young people who are busy at work and have little time to take care of their health.e. Young people who have just married and know little about traditional Chinese Medicine

Mrs. Mary lives alone. After a visit with doctor, she bought some herbs according to the prescription. When she used the traditional fire-heating

pot to decoct the herbs, she always forgot when should she turn the fire up. And when she needed to pour the liquid medicine in to the bowl, the pot with medicine in it is too heavy for her. There does exist a safety problem.

This product makes the process of decocting herbs easier for users. By simply setting all the procedure at one time, people would not need to do adjusting work during the heating time. And they will be informed when the medicine is OK. The structure is indeed labor-saving.The touch screen OS is familiar to the young, but whether it is familiar to old people is not analysed completely. So the value of this product should be checked in practice.

This project focuses on junior designers who often need to use pen tablets. Before they could use their pen tablets they should take time to get used to using pen tablet. Most of them could not afford LCD pen displays.

Of all 54 students who major in Industrial Design in my university, 16 have pen tablets.

Users care about the products, while designers enjoy the process of designing.Many of my classmates complain that pen tablet is unconvenient to control. Being a student majors in Industrial Design, I seem to have to do something to sovle this problem.

Focus on the screen

Hand’s working area

PEN TABLET

Unlike mouse, only when the pen is close enough to the tablet, the cursor is positioned. Staring at the screen, designer has somewhat difficulties to decide where to begin on the tablet. It is unintuitive.

* used as a common pen tablet* more intuitive interaction way* substitude for expensive LCD pen display* easy to learn and use

A new kind of input device

With users’ demand for reliable natural input devices and designers’ need of more intuitive inputting, I design a pen tablet, with hope to give you freedom to draw.

PEN TABLET

With Infrared Touch Technology, user can use their fingers to control the computer. When they use the pen to draw, the infrared touch function turns off automatically, and the electromagnetic-inducted screen begins to work.Transparent conducting material can be used to build this screen.

Most people use laptops whose display sizes are between 13 and 15 inches. So the dimension of the new pen tablet could be determined according to the size of 15 inches

No need to buy a new laptop, you can try Windows 8 on your old laptop with your fingers.

The new pen tablet provides people more natural and intuitive ways of interaction between users and computer, with the size scale being one to one and keeping user’s eyes and hands at the same position. This product, if marketed, would be a economical choice for young designers who want to draw with freedom.

You can use it as a common pen tablet. You could also put a picture under the tablet if you like. This is very convenient for children who likes copying pictures.

Use fingers to control the laptops just like playing an ipad when stylus pen are not being used. Relatively large touching area will not cause the tablet to work.

Press the light button, the transparent layer would be filled with light. So you can use it to read in dark. Purple LED light shaping the buttons and USB interface is cool as well as convenient for user to find them in dark.

Adjust available area by pointing the top points of diagonal lines on the corresponding positions of the tablet with help of specialized software.

Manhole covers can be seen everywhere in our city and they seem monotonous. If they are combined with guide signs or maps, it would be more useful and artistic for visitors.

Without a compass, visitors can also identify their directions easily

You are hereThe cover’s position is your position!The way is under your feet!You don’t know which direction is the North?It doesn’t matter!Because YOU ARE HERE!

FUTURE CLASSROOM

This coursework is to design a system of classroom for students who major in design. Our young designers are differnet from other students. They need space for creating, thinking, designing and making.

Creative point (F!):

1.A layer of relatively small platform for discussing and meeting:This project makes full use of the high space, increases space levels, and builds special perspective. 2.Circular stair bookshelf:When students are walking up and down the stairs, they can pick up books in the shelves by the stair.

Creative point (F2):

1. We create a corridor like museum, involving 1. We create a corridor like museum, involving the sense of hearing, touch, vision into students’ life. People often ignore their feelings because they are too familiar to these feelings. Designers need to constantly remind themselves to this point.

During the gap of dancing animations, the big screen shows a picture which gathers all the photos. The photo are deispersed randomly.

Taking advantage of camera, tangible interface, interactive animation and other elements, my team designed this attendance system in order to improve user experience when people take part in an exhibition. To build this system, we used technology such as Java, Flash actionscript and so on. This system drew a lot of attention on our university’s innovation exhibition. This system also won the title of national innovation project. I believe, by further improving, this kind of interactive system will be used more widely.more widely.
