BREAKFAST CLUB THANK YOU
Yea High School would like to thank the Rotary Club of Yea and in particular, Rotarian David Ngo who provided us with a monetary donation to support the Breakfast Club. MARTIAL ARTS THERAPY
Over an 8-week period during Term 3, our Year 9 and 10 male cohorts had the opportunity to participate in a Martial Arts Ther-apy Program. This program was funded directly by School Fo-cused Youth Services and was facilitated in respond to the Resil-ience Survey. The program par-ticularly focused on Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness and Social Management. A big thanks goes to Guy Rhynsburger who facilitat-ed the program and to Rod Clue who supported this program.
YEAR 8 HOLOCAUST MUSEUM EXCURSION
On the 14th of September, Year 8 students visit-ed to Holocaust Museum in Elsternwick. Stu-dents heard from guest speaker - Holocaust Survivor, Paul, toured the museum and viewed a short film. Students represented Yea High School well and feedback from volunteer facilita-tors was positive.
PRINCIPAL’S TEAM REPORT
VCE STUDENTS
Many of our VCE students were busy preparing for their final examinations over the holiday period with many
attending revision lectures and undertaking practice exams. This Tuesday, October 24th, will be the final day
of scheduled classes for Year 12. The school will farewell the class at an assembly which will include a slide
show tribute. The Year 12 class will lunch with the staff and then depart for an afternoon and evening of enter-
tainment in Melbourne. The year is far from complete with their examinations commencing, Wednesday 1st
November. English is the first exam and a full examination timetable is available from the website: http://

We congratulate the class of 2017 for their significant contribution to the school and wider community and
wish them the best of success for the challenges that lie ahead. We look forward to seeing them all again at
the Valedictory Dinner which is scheduled at Beaufort Manor on November 17th.
2017 ON DEMAND TESTING STANDARD SCORE SCALE REVIEW PROJECT
Our school currently uses On Demand testing to provide our teachers with insights into your child’s literacy
and numeracy development. Following a request from the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority
(VCAA), which is responsible for the development of On Demand, I am informing you of our school’s partici-
pation in a project to review the On Demand tests. This review will involve the equating of students’ On De-
mand test outcomes with the school’s NAPLAN data. Towards this end, the school will grant the VCAA per-
mission to collect our On Demand data.
The data collected will contain test results and associated student details from On Demand assessments at
our school for 2017. Our data, along with data from other schools will be used in a one-time linking process
between On Demand and NAPLAN results held by the VCAA to form a single dataset. This dataset will then
be anonymised and used to review the performance of the On Demand Tests. All identified data collected will
be destroyed at the completion of the process and there will be no release of any school or individual results
or personal details as part of this work.
This work will benefit our school by further enhancing the reliability and accuracy of the On Demand tests.

ICT PROVISION 2018 AND BEYOND
Yea High School has recently sought quotes for new netbooks for students in Years 7 and 10 in 2018. Con-
sistent with the policy introduced in 2015 every Yea High School student will be asked to have a net-book for
class use, which they will also be entitled to use at home for their personal use. Details of the upfront Pay-
ment rental plan will provided later in Term 4.
STUDENT LEADERS
The 2017 School Captains, Dean Mercuri and Alexandra Huggins, have set a great example to the school
community. Soon we will be calling for nominations for School Captains and School Council Representatives
for 2018. Nominating students will issued with an outline of the requirements for the positions. All individuals
nominating are required to be interviewed by the principal and the senior school manager.
SUNSMART
During Term 4 and Term 1 in particular, staff and students are asked to avoid being outdoors without suitable
protection from the sun. The school’s policy encourages students and staff to wear appropriate hat and wear
sunscreen. We would ask for parents to support the school’s policy on this issue.
Parents are asked to make hats and sunscreen available. The school also provides sunscreen at various lo-
cations around the school, at the Junior School office, PE office at the stadium, at the main office and at the
school nurse office. Students without suitable protection outdoors will be directed to shaded locations or in-
doors.
MELBOURNE CUP HOLIDAY
The school will be closed on Tuesday 7th November for the Melbourne Cup holiday. Those students who
have scheduled examinations and assessments on Monday 6th of October are required to attend school.

ABSENCES
Parents need to update Compass if their student/s are not attending school. This can be
done before or after the absence alternatively they need to contact the school by phone,
email or note if their child is absent from school.
CHANGE OF DETAILS
We require you to notify the General Office if your contact details have changed including address, phone
numbers or email.
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
Warmer conditions require us to remind bus travellers and families that uses will not proceed if roads are
blocked due to accidents, weather conditions or on days deemed Code Red days. The school will endeavour
to contact families. COMPASS and the School App notices will also be used to notify families of interruptions
to bus travel.

Please note that all visitors to the school must sign in at the front office.
SCHOOL BUILDING IMPROVEMENT WORK
The 16th November has been set as a completion
date for the current school upgrade work (Art room,
Wood/Metal and Music/Drama Space shown below).
Over the Term 3 holiday break work on a kitchen up-
grade in the staffroom and a computer area in the
library commenced. New doors, internal from the cor-
ridor and external to the yard for the Café, have also
been installed.

YHS SPORTING SUCCESS
Congratulations to the Year 7 Boys’ Badminton Team for their efforts at the State Badminton Competition.
The boys competed on Tuesday the 20th of September in Melbourne. The team consisted of Austen Ross,
Riley Slevin, Forest Ryan, Matthew Luke and Riley Ball-Tilbrook. They now look forward to next year’s tourna-
ments in the hope of more success!

Charles who competed at the Hume Region Athletics. Congratulations to Cassie Wilsmore who placed 3rd in

Remote Pilot’s Licence (RePL) course
The Institute for Drone Technology:
The Institute for Drone Technology is an Australian Registered Training Organisation (No. 45181) de-livering education and training under the Australian Skills Quality Authority. The Institute is approved by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) to provide training and assessment for the RePL. Central Ranges Trade Training Centre (CRTTC):
The CRTTC is a cooperative venture between nine secondary colleges in Central Victoria providing
technical training in automotive and engineering trades. The CRTTC is proud to partner with the Insti-
tute for Drone Technology to make this opportunity available to residents of Central Victoria.
Employment
The international market for drone technology has been estimated by PriceWaterhouseCoopers to
grow to US$127 billion by 2020.
Successful completion of this course may provide career opportunities as a Drone operator within a
range of roles in sectors such as agriculture, tourism, media, surveying, emergency services and aerial
imagery. In addition, the skills gained will complement jobs in traditional occupations such as photogra-
phers, surveyors, civil engineers and construction managers.
CASA and the RePL (https://www.casa.gov.au/)
“You need to be licensed and/or certified by CASA if you fly a drone commercially in Australia, outside
the excluded category. A remote pilot licence (RePL) allows you to fly for RPA operators, who in turn
need to hold an RPA operator’s certificate (ReOC). So, if you are working for yourself, you need both”.
Our course meets the latest CASA endorsed guidelines and syllabus from June 2017. The new sylla-
bus represents a significant lifting of standards in terms of provider quality requirements and course
content, and reflects the latest in pilot knowledge and skills.
