Dear Parents/Carers
Last week 31 children in Year 6 took part in Bikeability cycling programme. We are delighted that all 31
children were awarded level one and level 2 in Bikeability. This means that these children not only have
road worthy bikes but they are also competent in cycling. Children should not be riding on the road unless
they have their Bikeability level 2 award.
We continue to celebrate excellent attendance. Just before half term 6H were recognised for their 100%
whole class attendance. Excellent attendance is always reflected in excellent learning.
More recently we have been exploring the virtue of ‘respect’ and its relationship to all of the other virtues.
Respect for others, their ideas and their learning is of great importance as to the respect given to other
children and staff alike. Please discuss this with your children.
Year 6 are using knowledge organisers designed by the Year 6 team teachers. The knowledge organisers
are documents containing key facts for the topic the children are studying. They are extremely helpful for
prior learning of topics; please share these with your child.
This week across the school we will be sending home information termed at ‘seeds of knowledge’ This
information related to a topic will enhance the children's personal knowledge and widen their
understanding of a range of things. Please share this with your child and add to the information with
them. There is no requirement to undertake specific homework tasks with this except to discuss the topic
with your child. New ‘seeds of knowledge’ will be sent out each week.
FSCI Christmas Box Appeal
This year YJS will be supporting the FSCI Christmas Appeal by creating 10 boxes per class
to help spread happiness to hundreds of children and families in South East Europe.
These boxes will be distributed to refugee camps and orphanages in Bulgaria. You can
donate anything from the list sent home last week. Please donate generously!
Intergenerational Programme
Year 5 and 6 children performed a dance to the hymn ’Amazing
Grace’ at the Northwood Live at Home Scheme. The dance was part
of a celebration event focusing on the importance of Black History
Month. Yeading Junior School enjoyed sharing facts about Black
History and showcased our Character Virtues beautifully.
Police Cadets
Year 5/6 enjoyed an assembly from the Metropolitan Volunteer Police
Cadets. They highlighted the amazing opportunities for young people
available through the Police Cadets Programme. If your child is
interested in joining, please contact the Hillingdon Cadets Coordinator
on 0208 246 1849 or email via [email protected]
Youth Summit
Children from seven Yeading Cluster schools came together for a Youth
Summit on Thursday 30th October. They enjoyed a day of motivational
speeches and workshops focusing on issues within the local community,
improving the wellbeing of children and working together as a team to
make a positive difference in the environment that surrounds us.

Financial Education
As part of Financial Education at Yeading Junior School all children have had the opportunity to take part in the 'Business Plan' phase of 'Tycoon Enterprise Competition' 2019-20. Thirty seven businesses submitted their business plans and six were chosen based on accurate and realistic content. The six successful businesses to enter the next phase of the competition are 'Awesome Origami’, 'Artitexture', 'BK Charms' , 'Bead Business' , 'Sweet Sensation' and 'Clay Play'. They will be entering the 'Trading' phase and will each receive their loan in order to finance start up costs. All business partners will be learning how to operate 'real life' businesses using a wide variety of skills. This is a whole school activity and we are very proud to support our six businesses in this national competition.
Sport
This term Year 5 have participated in the Tag Rugby taster session, a selected group of children will be participating in the Tag Rugby megafest. We continue to support change4life and a group of children were selected to attend a celebration festival at Barnhill Community High.
