Primary Research

Explore school/ Hall / Lee Bank park. Look at the different habitats and take photos using the iPads. Look at habitats from around the world and compare.

Pupils experiment with a variety of recyclable materials to create marks with. Use recycled materials, such as bubble wrap, bottle caps, corrugated cardboard, bubbles, etc. Experiment with and make marks using primary coloured paint into their sketch books. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G88rU8cdTQg

Explore the school grounds and take photographs of natural life such leaves, plants, trees etc. using the iPads. Pupils to stick photos of the natural forms into the sketchbooks and label them.

First Design

In sketchbooks pupils will draw or stick in a large outline of an animal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dz1bBPgiI-U (this shows you how to draw a panda)

Inside the animal pupils will sketch out features of their habitat in the style of Daniel Mackie. Add colour using coloured pencil.

In their sketchbook pupils will create a drawing of one of ‘The Beatles’. In the style of Andy Warhol pupils to add block colour to the drawing using coloured pencils. Colours added must be bright complementary colours.

Go outside and make an Andy Goldsworthy inspired installation using leaves, stones and other objects found in nature. Photograph with the iPads. Experiment with the iPads adding different colours and filters to the pupil’s photographs.

Final Design

In sketchbooks pupils will create the 2nd animal in the style of Daniel Mackie, this animal must be an animal found in the UK. Pupils must add colour to this artwork using watercolour paint. Discuss the colour wheel with the pupils.

In group of 4 pupils to work on large paper to create marks using the bubble technique and bubble wrap. Use bright coloured paint such as red and yellow like Roy Lichtenstein. When the paper is dry pupils to draw the four Beatles onto the paper and outline in black marker pen.

Choose the best photographs. Cut the pupils photographs into a variety of leaf shapes (4 for each pupil). Collate the photographs into a large spiral installation which can be displayed in school. Arrange the colours in a variation of tone like Andy Goldsworthy.

Final Outcome

Recreate the best design onto a canvas. All canvases will form part of an exhibition for parents.

Display the portraits in groups of 4 like Andy Warhol.

Display the installation in a spiral like the work of Andy Goldsworthy.
