Handwriting

• Gives children a sense of achievement and pride in their work

• Improves self-esteem and motivation

• Plays a part in their personal development because care, pride, concentration and perseverance is what we are aiming for

How we teach handwriting

We use line guides to help the children know where to begin each letter. This also helps them to size the letters correctly.

Letters are taught systematically in family groups to begin with. We then teach the children how to begin joining the letters together using the joining stroke.

Assessing your child’s level

• The new curriculum has meant we have changed our assessment procedure.

• All children will be given a step (a number) that they are working at.

• This will be explained in more detail at your parents’ evening.
