What will be studied this termYear10 will study the novel ofMice and Men.For reading students will:
Show a clear understanding of the text through an analysis of language and how language isused to create particular effects. They will also evaluate and make interpretations of the textaccording to different perspectives and language variation.
Some students will understand the social and historical context of the text. They will use thisto develop in-depth and detailed evaluations of the text and key features of the text.
For speaking and listening:

What will be studied this term
An induction unit, prior to the Summer holidays, introducing new Business Students to theworld of business.
The main focus of this unit is Functional Areas and how they work together to achieve theaims of a business.
The activities will have a kinaesthetic learning style in order to engage and develop a workingrelationship with the Business class.
How will work be assessed
There will be an end of unit test before the Summer holiday to test students understanding ofthe purpose of business and the main functional areas that contribute to business activity.
What needs to be done at home
All lessons are accessible from Kingsbury Smart, so students can revise what was covered inlessons.
Each unit is supported by a Word Wall, with differentiated explanation of keywords
Description (D-G), Example (C-B) and importance to business (A-A*). There will be a Home-Based Independent Learning (HBIL) Workbook issued in the first week
of Business. This is due in before the Summer holiday, and will help students prepare for theHBIL assessment before the end of term.

BTEC Level 2 First Extended Certificate in Creative Media Production.
Unit 1 Research for Creative Media Production. This unit provides students with theopportunity to learn about the various research methods and techniques that media producersuse to try to make their creative media products a success.
This unit will help them for when they have to make their own media product later.
How will work be assessed
Students will be assessed by a number of internal assignments designed to allow thestudents to show their understanding of the unit outcomes.
There will be a mixture of presentations, case studies, practical tasks and writtenassignments.

Students will gain an understanding of the Construction Industry. What work is involved in theplanning, design and construction of a building, Health and Safety, Materials and their use inthe building trade.
Students during the year will undertake a variety of hands-on tasks, including; Carpentry &
joinery, Electrical, Plumbing, Wallpapering and Painting & Decorating.
How will work be assessed
Practical work is assessed by the tutor and graded pass/ merit/ distinction.
Written work is assessed in the same way with the opportunity to resubmit work aftercorrections have been made.

Introduction to Edexcel GCSE drama. Students will working on team building skills,improvisation (spontaneous and rehearsed) and performance skills.
Students use explorative strategies, the drama medium and elements of drama in order tolearn how to create meaning through performance.
How will work be assessed
Students undergo summative assessment throughout the work which is teacher led and at theend of each term through a process of teacher, peer and self-assessment.
All performances are filmed for moderation purposes.

BTEC Engineering Unit 10 (Using computer aided drawing techniques in engineering)
This unit gives students the opportunity to use computer aided drawing (CAD) techniques in
an engineering context.
In this unit students are given the opportunity to use CAD software to represent two
dimensional (2D) engineering information using industry standard methods of orthographic
projection and learn how to present three-dimensional (3D) objects using isometric drawing
techniques.
How will work be assessed
The unit is coursework based however there are 4 controlled assessments that must becompleted by all students.
Students can expect to get either a PASS, MERIT OR DISTINCTION once coursework hasbeen completed.

A key outcome is the assessment research task which counts for 5% of the overall grade and isuploaded to a candidates e-portfolio via the schools RealSmart platform.

50% of the course is assessed internally: the first task is to research the production,distribution and exhibition details of a film of the candidates choice and to begin an analysisof a scene using some of the key aspects of film language.
