What the examiner is looking for…

What does this mean for you?

This response achieved in the top band (6) Look for all of the features from the mark scheme you have created.

Of Mice and Men mark scheme

´ Close analysis of the extract – track the text and extract 4 – 5 pieces of evidence that you can comment on when you respond to section A of the question. Where possible, you should also look for language techniques and devices so that you can show off your extensive knowledge

´ Refer back to the reader, how do the actions in the extract (and the rest of the text) make us feel?

´ Link back to the rest of the text, how can you link what is happening in the extract to what else has happened in the novel (look at the example you have been shown)

´ Refer to the social and historical context of the time period and make sure you can link these to the events in the novel

´ Try to be as perceptive as possible, minute details and smaller pieces of evidence work better than quotes that are lengthy and unnecessary

Of Mice and Men – John Steinbeck

´Homework – revise OMAM in preparation for your assessment next lesson

´Use: Mr Bruff, BBC Bitesize, Lit booklets, revision materials from your email, Doddle, stay after school to work with your teacher if you are still unsure!
