Revision needs to be active !

Revision isn’t fun but it does bring great rewards

• Start now!

• Prepare a plan – know your exam dates

• Make short summaries of each subject’s

topics using revision cards

• Revise for short periods; 30 – 45 minutes

followed by a break


• Just reading text books won’t work

• Answer past papers and mark them;

give extra time to the topics with which

you struggle

• Regularly revisit topics – ask your family

to verbally test you

Unit 1: 40% Examination (Monday 27th June, a.m.)

• Revision homework will be preparing exam style questions for completion - make sure that you do this

Unit 2: 60% Controlled assessment design & make task

GCSE Resistant MaterialsUnit 1: 40% Examination

• Use your RM revision guides that were issued in Year 10 – summarise key

points to make revision cards

• Practise applying your knowledge to possible design or manufacture

scenarios.

• The AQA website has past papers with answers - read questions carefully

to avoid losing careless marks

Coursework:

• Work through your design folder - refinement and completion tasks that

are identified by your teacher. Start compiling your manufacturing

photographic diary now

• ICT facilities in room 108 open to students every brunch, lunch and after

GCSE Art & Design: Fine ArtUnit 1: 60% Course Work

• Students choose their best project for submission

• This should now be complete so that you can focus on the exam

• The Coursework (sketchbooks, finished pieces) should be handed in

by Monday March 21st at the very latest

Unit 2: 40% Externally set task (exam)

• Students choose one starting point from the exam paper

• Students use the Exam Task sheet to organise their preparation work

(75% of unit 2)

• Students hand in their preparation work at the first of two exam

session on Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th May

• Solos and Ensembles should be practiced regularly and ready

for recording in the next few weeks

Unit 2: Composition• You have nearly finished Composition 2 and need to finish this

before Easter. You need to book an after school slot if you

have missed lessons.

Unit 3: The Exam• Listen to the set pieces regularly

• Match up your notes to what you can hear

• Use revision notes and past papers on the shared area


BTEC MusicUnit 1: The Music Industry Exam

• Retakes: Go through your revision materials. Make

new resources. Attend revision classes after Easter.

Unit 2: Composition

• You should attend one hour after school session to

finish your composition unit

Unit 3: Performance

• You should be practicing at home/at school in

break times to improve your skills. This all needs to

be written in your log book. Prepare for recording of

two pieces.

How can parents / carers help?

Creating the best conditions:

• A quiet place to work with good lighting

• A table which gives enough room for books and other materials

• Resources (pens, pencils, colours, highlighters, paper, notes, books) close at hand

• A comfortable chair – but not too comfy!

• Encourage the removal of things that present distractions

• Offer to test and fire random questions

Looking after yourself

• Brains use energy and burn calories – they need feeding, watering, exercise and rest

• Examination time is not a good time to diet

• Try to eat breakfast; lunch and dinner

• Eat healthy snacks

• Drink water – avoid caffeine and sugary drinks

• Try to get enough sleep; older teenagers need around 9 hours of sleep per night

•Record spoken notes to listen to

on your iPod or MP3 player (use

Voice Memos or similar)

•Use Post-it notes placed around

your home to remind you of key

Modified timetable

• For a small number of students, timetables

might be modified before 16 May based

on completion of BTEC subjects

• The timetable for all students will be

modified from Monday 16 May – it will

include a mixture of normal lesson times,

and blocks of special revision lessons that

fit around subject exams, as well as study

at home


• A blend of home study and taught sessions has helped students to perform well in previous years

• There will be a number of days where students will work at home for part of the day, depending on approaching exams

• We aim to have blocks of lessons in the morning, with some in the afternoon – it will vary by subject
