Equipment

Train in the shoes that you will run in…

• Practise papers with the equipment that you will use in the exam

• Have you got black pens, pencils, rulers, scientific calculator, protractor, compasses

• Calculators and geometry sets are available from school Finance

In the Maths Exam

Use a highlighter to identify key words and

numbers in the question but don’t use highlighters

in your final answer.

Show all your working and make the final answer

clear.

Give your answer to the right number of decimal

places or significant figures.

Graphs

Draw clear lines on

graphs with a sharp

pencil when reading off

values to show the

examiner what you

have used.

Put extra values on the

scales to help.

Maths - the basics….

• Fewer formulae given than in the previous specification so

• Learn:– Formulae for area and circumference of a circle

– Area of a trapezium

– Pythagoras

– SOHCAHTOA

– Exact values for sin, cos and tan of 30o, 60o, 45o

– Angle rules

– Circle theorems

– Volume of prism, cylinder, pyramid

• Formulae for volume and surface area of a sphere and cone will be given

Page 8: Year 11 Maths Revision Ousedale School

• Presentation– Dark black pen as papers are scanned in

– Straight lines for linear graphs and lines of best fit

– Smooth curves for other graphs and cumulative frequency

– Show solutions and stages of working carefully

– Practise checking answers (substitute solutions back into equations to check for errors)

– Cover up a line at a time and work through again

Maths - Every Mark Counts

Page 9: Year 11 Maths Revision Ousedale School

• Lay out your work logically and clearly.

• Don’t cross out your attempts until you have a better attempt.

• Give answers in the form asked for

(exact means as fractions, with p or square roots NOT every digit from a calculator display)

• Always use decimals or fractions for probability

Maths - In the Exam

Maths - Every Mark Counts…

• Make working clear

• Label angles and sides using the

letters given in the diagram

• Give reasons for proof

• State the obvious!

• Put extra lines of working in show

that questions

Page 11: Year 11 Maths Revision Ousedale School

You must show your working

out, otherwise achieve no marks

Page 12: Year 11 Maths Revision Ousedale School

Read the question carefully and use

the space available for working

Multiple Choice Questions

Page 13: Year 11 Maths Revision Ousedale School

• Pie Charts – do your angles add up to 360

degrees?

• Mean averages – is your answer sensible?

• Pythagoras – Is the longest side is the

hypotenuse

• Trig – if your angle is less than 1 degree you

have probably forgotten to use the inverse

function

• Probability – answer between 0 and 1 as a

fraction or decimal

Maths - In the Exam quick

checks
